What Really Happens To Your Skin When You Use A Jade Roller

If you've noticed all your friends are talking about jade rollers all of sudden, just know that you are not alone. Over the past year or so, they've entered the mainstream and it seems as though everyone wants to try them at least once. But what really happens to your skin when you use a jade roller? What do they actually do?

"Fans of jade rollers claim that they boost circulation, detoxify the skin, reduce puffiness, calm inflammation and rashes, aid penetration of skincare products and slow the signs of [aging], such as wrinkles," consultant dermatologist Dr. Justine Kluk told Marie Claire. Ross J. Barr, an acupuncturist in London, agrees, telling Harper's Bazaar, "Jade is really good for evening your skin tone, for cooling and calming the skin." He also believes using a jade roller daily is kind of like giving yourself your own mini facial. But does this beauty product actually work? Does using a jade roller really give you a mini facial?

If you want results from a jade roller, you need to make sure you're using it correctly

Sandra Lanshin Chiu, founder of the holistic healing studio Lanshin in New York and Chinese medicine dermatology expert, told Cosmopolitan, "The key is good technique plus consistency." In other words, using a jade roller does work, but you need to know how to use it properly. She also added that the roller doesn't necessarily have to be jade, as any type of stone will likely give you the same result.

Dr. Kluk, on the hand, points out that there's little evidence to back up the use of jade rollers on skin. "There is no good quality scientific research to support many of the claims directly," she told Marie Claire. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't bother. Basically, if you're noticing an improved difference, however big or small, there's no reason you shouldn't continue using it.
