The Real Reason Fans Are Unhappy With Teen Mom OG

Has Teen Mom OG run its course? MTV's popular show, which was a spin-off of 16 and Pregnant, is in its eighth season but fans are starting to feel like the concept is getting a bit stale.

Ratings are down, the story-lines feel forced, and off-screen, the drama is getting a bit too real. Also, none of these mothers are teenagers any more, so the title is kind of a misnomer. We've watched these women grow up over the past decade and their stories continue to be compelling, but as their profiles increase and life settles down into something resembling a normal routine, there simply might just be less reason to watch them.

Ratings for Teen Mom OG have plummeted

According to Showbuzz Daily, ratings for the show have dropped by more than 100,000 viewers since the most recent season's premiere, which was only a month ago; viewership plummeted from 859,000 to 743,000 for the March 31 episode. The most recent episode, broadcast Tuesday, saw a slight increase in viewing figures to 837,000. It's a considerable drop from last season, which kicked off with 990,000 viewers. The show follows Teen Mom's original cast-members Maci Bookout, Amber Portwood, and Catelynn Lowell, alongside relative newcomers Cheyenne Floyd and Mackenzie McKee, who were added after original cast member Farrah Abraham was sacked from the show.

According to a report in The Sun, fans are rallying to have the show canceled just like one of its newest spin-offs, Teen Mom: Young and Pregnant, which was recently axed due to poor ratings. "The OGs are boring and we already know they [sic] lifestyle nothing has changed," one fan complained. Similarly, another wrote, "Same boring story line, NO ONE CARES," and a third rallied, "Just cancel this crap show already. I'm pretty sure no one cares about them anymore. I know I don't."

Fans are angry with the cast of Teen Mom OG

Certain fans also have an issue with Amber Portwood still being a part of the cast, according to a damning report by The Ashley's Reality Roundup. Portwood's ongoing legal troubles, including a domestic battery charge made against her by former partner, and father to her young son, Andrew Glennon, are forming much of the drama on Season 8 so far.

Fans believe she should've been fired from the show for her behavior, with one writing, "I won't be watching due to them continuing to air @AmberLPortwood. She is a violent felon who abused another baby daddy on TV while MTV did nothing. ...Should be in jail, not on TV." Another wrote, "@MTV I will not be watching Teen mom og. I don't support Amber Portwood having a platform after her domestic violence."

Meanwhile, Mackenzie Standifer, who's married to Bookout's baby daddy Ryan Edwards, has been lashing out at fans on social media who are disturbed by the portrayal of Edwards' relationship with his son on the show. According to The Hollywood Gossip, Standifer is responding to criticism in kind, proving that sometimes reality really is crazier than reality TV.
