The Internet Is Freaking Out About Reese Witherspoon's Latest Announcement

If you've been waiting for some good news, look no further. Reese Witherspoon just announced some major news about Legally Blonde 3. While we've known that a third installment of the franchise was in the works for a while now, things have gotten super official with Witherspoon's announcement.

"Great news alert!!" wrote Witherspoon on Instagram. "Some things are just meant to be! I'm SOOO excited to have [Mindy Kaling] and [Dan Goor] writing Legally Blonde 3! This is #ElleWoodsApproved!"

Kaling and Goor are taking over for screenwriters Kirsten "Kiwi" Smith and Karen McCullah who were attached to the project when it was first announced in 2018 (per Deadline). Kaling and Goor will be completely rewriting the script from the ground floor. Witherspoon will be producing through her studio, Hello Sunshine, along with Marc Platt, the original producer of the Legally Blonde franchise. Adam Siegal, President of Platt Productions, and Lauren Neustadter, Hello Sunshine's head of television and film, will also be producing.

Legally Blonde 3 will technically be the fourth Legally Blonde film

The film is the latest in a string of successful projects for Kaing, who recently co-created and executive produced the Netflix comedy show Never Have I Ever. She also co-created and executive produced Hulu's Four Weddings and a Funeral. Other EP credits include The Office and The Mindy Project, which Kaling also starred in.

Goor is a two-time Emmy winner who has written for The Daily Show and Late Night With Conan O'Brien. He is also the co-creator of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as well as an EP and writer for Parks and Recreation.

While a third Legally Blonde movie, Legally Blondes, was released in 2009, it doesn't star Witherspoon. Instead, it focuses on her British twin cousins who move to Los Angeles for high school. Deadline confirmed that Legally Blonde 3 will definitely star Witherspoon as Elle Woods.
