Jeanine Pirro's Trump Admin Ambitions May Have Soured Her Close Friendship With Pam Bondi
When news broke that Pam Bondi was fired as attorney general, some folks were surprised, others were relieved, and some, it seems, were mostly focused on the job opening. Todd Blanche will be stepping in as interim attorney general, but as far as the public knows, it's still up in the air who might fill the role long-term. You may not know that Judge Jeanine Pirro, for her part, wants the role, and we can't imagine it will be particularly good for her friendship with Bondi.
Nearly a year ago, Pirro was selected as the new U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. When she was confirmed, then-Attorney General Bondi was quick to offer her a public shoutout. "Congratulations to my dear friend @USAttyPirro on her confirmation today," she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, at the time. She added, "Jeanine is not only a wonderful person — she is a warrior for law and order. I am absolutely thrilled to work side by side with my friend to keep Washington, DC safe."
Now, these pals will no longer be working together, since, according to Donald Trump's Truth Social post, Bondi "will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector" (that will somehow "be announced at a date in the near future"). From the outside looking in, Bondi seemed to try her hardest to kiss up to Trump enough to keep her job. Yet, all the while, her friend may have been attempting to render her efforts futile in order to steal her job. Pirro might even be on her way to succeeding.
Jeanine Pirro was apparently trying to push Pam Bondi out of her job
Within Jeanine Pirro's inner circle, it's reportedly far from a secret that she wants to be the next attorney general. An insider told New York Magazine's Intelligencer, "The judge is very close to the president, talks to him all the time." They added, "And she'd been trying to put the knife in Bondi, saying she's not a prosecutor and doesn't have control of the building." If this is true, then it's surely a heartbreaking betrayal for Pam Bondi, who openly considered Pirro a friend.
Now that Bondi is out of the way, Pirro could actually get her wish. Time and time again, we've seen the judge bend over backwards to accommodate Donald Trump's wishes. This often seems to be one of the most vital details on someone's resume if they're looking for a role in the administration. A former prosecutor who knows Pirro explained to the outlet, "She'll do what Trump wants," and noted, "I don't think she's malicious like Ed Martin. I don't think she's evil like Pam Bondi. She's an opportunist who likes the limelight."
According to The New York Post, the prediction markets indicate that plenty of folks expect Pirro to take over the role. Considering the fact that she's apparently been working toward this goal for quite some time, she probably has plans to make it happen now that it's closer to her grasp.
