What The Actress Who Played Eliza Schuyler Has Been Up To Since Hamilton

It's hard to believe that it has been half a decade since the smash hit Hamilton captivated the world. The show premiered Off-Broadway in 2015 and moved to Broadway later that year (per Playbill). Since then, Hamilton has become iconic, working its way into our culture and our hearts.

A recording of the Broadway show just hit Disney Plus, so many people who weren't able to catch the show on stage are now meeting Alexander Hamilton and the Schuyler sisters for the first time. One of the Schuyler sisters, Eliza, was played by an actress whose name you'll soon be familiar with if you aren't already: Phillipa Soo.

Soo originated the role of Eliza Schuyler in the hit musical and was even nominated for a Tony for her performance. Even more impressive is that Hamilton was Soo's first Broadway role (per Broadway Style Guide) but it certainly was not her last. What has she been up to since leaving the cast of Hamilton?

As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, Soo left Hamilton in 2016. She soon joined the cast of another Broadway musical, Amélie. Per Broadway World, her other stage credits since then include The Parisian Woman and TUMACHO.

The actress has also built up a screen career since Hamilton. While Soo had roles in the short film Keep the Change, the TV show Smash, and the TV movie Dangerous Liaisons prior to starring as Eliza Schuyler, her TV career really ramped up after Hamilton. Per IMDb, her film and TV credits since then include roles in The 8th Year of the Emergency, Here and Now, and The Code.

What's next for Soo? She plans to continue acting, wherever that takes her. She told Schön! that she's branching out into animated films, fulfilling a lifelong dream of hers. She added, "Would love to do more theatre, would love to do more film, yes!"
