Queen Elizabeth's Former 'Gatekeeper' Threatens To Spill All & Royals Are Reportedly Worried

With the advent of technology and social media, the British royal family has been more open in recent years; however, there's still a largely controlled narrative regarding what stories and secrets get revealed to the public. We do sometimes get behind the scenes glimpses into this storied family, like the startling revelations from Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex in his memoir "Spare." But it's not just family members who are privy to some of the royal drama, the staff are as well. There's an upcoming film project from Angela Kelly, Queen Elizabeth's former dresser and personal assistant, that reportedly has some in the royal family a bit concerned about what she might say.

The story of Kelly's life is reportedly going to be made into a documentary, and it will inevitably include details about her time working for the queen, according to the Daily Mail. She worked for Queen Elizabeth for nearly three decades, and over time, Queen Elizabeth developed a close relationship with Kelly. The two were so close and Kelly was so relied upon that she was considered to be a "gatekeeper" to the queen, per The Telegraph.

She saw a lot of things the rest of us can only guess about, and it's not clear exactly what tea she'll be spilling. "The royals will be worried, and they are right to be worried," an unnamed insider apparently close to the situation told the Daily Mail.

Angela Kelly, who grew up in Liverpool, started working for the queen in 1993 after working as a housekeeper for the British Ambassador to Germany. This meant she was by the queen's side through major events like the death of Princess Diana and the marriages of both Prince William and Prince Harry. She would accompany the queen when she traveled, like to Balmoral when she saw Queen Elizabeth do the washing up after family barbecues, and occasionally to higher profile events, like London Fashion Week. She was also reportedly wrapped up in some palace drama, including a part of Meghan Markle's wedding tiara controversy, with Prince Harry saying that Kelly had stopped Meghan from trying on the tiara for a hairdressing fitting.

As for why she got hired, "I suppose the Queen must have liked me and decided I was trustworthy and discreet," Kelly told The Telegraph in 2007 for her first ever interview about her work for the queen. Kelly end up advancing to becoming the senior dresser and a personal assistant for the queen. Our guess is that the royal family is hoping that Kelly's discretion continues into the documentary.

Kelly has already written two books detailing some of her life working for the queen — that's how we learned that Queen Elizabeth had her shoes broken in by Kelly wearing them first. While Kelly signed a confidentiality agreement, she also apparently had the queen's blessing to write a total of three books. It could be that this film provides the insights into royal life that would be included in the third book that the queen had approved.
