The Truth About Ashley Biden's Husband

Joe Biden's youngest daughter, Ashley Biden, mostly steers clear of the spotlight, a trait she shares with her husband, Dr. Howard Krein. Biden met Krein through her brother, Beau, and the two dating in 2010 (via People). After asking her father's permission, Krein proposed to Biden on a cliff in Big Sur while the sun set. They married in a Catholic-Jewish ceremony at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church, and danced the Hora at the reception. Krein seems to have a secret romantic side; the only comment he offered to ABC was that he and Biden had surprises for each other throughout their wedding ceremony, including where Krein had arranged their honeymoon.

Though he's a Democrat, Krein prefers to keep his public profile focused on his work, dedicating his Twitter feed to posts and news from StartUp Health. He and Biden currently live in Philadelphia, a short drive away from her family.

Howard Krein is an accomplished medical professional passionate about philanthropy

Krein has some serious academic prowess. After graduating from Rutgers University, he got a medical degree at Thomas Jefferson Medical College before getting a PhD in cell and developmental biology (via The New York Times). According to ABC, patients have remarked on his warm bedside manner. Medicine runs in the family for the Kreins; Howard's mother was a physician assistant in cardiology at Cooper University Hospital, while his father retired as a director of marketing for Aetna U.S. Healthcare.

Krein and his social worker wife share a passion for philanthropy. He is certified in otolaryngology and plastic surgery, which comes in handy for his volunteer work with the International Hospital for Children, operating on children with facial deformities in Belize (via Daily Mail). Krein has also volunteered with victims of domestic violence and soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. To relax, he enjoys techno music and rodeo competitions (via Observer).
