Sister Wives' Maddie Brown Reveals Daughter Underwent Amputation Surgery

In 2019, Sister Wives' star Maddie Brown Brush and her husband Caleb welcomed a daughter named Evangalynn Kodi. The couple would learn shortly after her birth that their little girl suffered from a rare condition called FACTO, which causes limb malformation (via People). In a new update, the 24-year-old shared that sweet Evangalynn — whose nickname is Evie — underwent amputation surgery (via People).

On Instagram, Brown Brush told fans in an uplifting and upbeat post, "Evie received some major gifts for her 1st birthday. Her surgeon laid the groundwork for her new foot and mobility it will bring, by way of a boyd amputation. Another gave her some extra mobility in her hand, by clipping her webbing she had in her right hand. She is home and is recovering beautifully." The post included a photo of the loving and brave mama smiling from underneath a face mask while holding her equally-brave and bandaged daughter, presumably in the hospital.

How Brown Brush came to terms with her daughter's prognosis

Brown Brush originally felt "shocked" upon learning about Evie's diagnosis (FACTO stands for fibular aplasia, tibial campomelia and oligosyndactyly) according to People. She understandably confided, "I was just sitting there trying to comprehend what's going on, having just had a baby as they are bringing in all these specialists. I was freaking out." But eventually she realized her second-born — the parents also have a son named Axel who is 3 — would have a life of "limitations, but not huge hindrances."

The mom also shared about her little one's condition, "It's abnormal, and it catches people off guard, but I want her to grow up and feel proud about who she is. If I'm hiding this to protect her, is it really helpful?" Ultimately, the reality star told People about opening up about Evie's life, "So little is known about this, so I hope to bring awareness."
