Major Celeb Guest Stars You Forgot Appeared On Friends

Friends may mostly have been filmed in the '90s, but its popularity and regular syndication continue to welcome new generations of fans wanting to follow the famous gang that took over that velvet orange sofa in Central Perk (via Vox). Sure, we all remember the main cast, from Aniston to Schwimmer, but after years of reruns, we're still surprised to see the other famous faces that pop up.

Take Mike Hannigan, played by Paul Rudd, who was Phoebe's husband on the show. We would guess that being the husband of one of the six main characters would make Rudd more memorable, but he didn't appear until season nine of the series (via IMDb). Rudd himself admits to be forgettable when he says, "in something like Friends, the show was about them. I was only in it for just a blip," further explaining, "I felt, 'I'm like a prop on this show. It's not about Mike Hannigan'" (via RadioTimes). "Crap Bag" may only have only been around at the end but fans were delighted "Princess Consuela Banana Hammock" found her match.

Robin Williams did an unplanned cameo

Comedian and actor Robin Williams is best known for his starring in his own films like Mrs. Doubtfire and Hook. However, Williams made a brief appearance on Central Perk's sofa in season three. Williams and actor Billy Crystal sat on the sofa at the beginning of a Friends episode and talk so loudly about their personal lives that it distracts Monica from telling a story.

Apparently Williams' guest star appearance wasn't exactly planned. Williams and Crystal were filming on a neighboring set when they accidentally wandered onto the Friends set, which was in the middle of filming. The writers jumped in and asked them if they wanted to be a part of the show. After accepting, Williams' and Crystal's roles as Tom and Tim were written and filmed that same day (per Comedy Central). No one can deliver the line "Can you scooch?" quite like Robin Williams.

America's Sweetheart played Susie Underpants

Susie Moss, perhaps better known to Friends fans as "Susie Underpants," is played by actress Julia Roberts in a second season episode. Susie was a former classmate of Chandler's from grade school (via ScreenRant). She reveals that he humiliated her in grade school by pulling up her skirt in the class play which gave her the name Susie Underpants. She retaliates by convincing him to wear her panties in a restaurant bathroom and then runs off with all his clothes.

Roberts is so famous she needs no introduction, but her single episode cameo could have been missed in the sea of all 235 episodes in the series. Her guest starring role happened on a double-length episode set to air on the same day as the Super Bowl, which was NBC's highest-grossing ad revenue day. Roberts plus Friends AND the Super Bowl — sound like an absolute touchdown.
