These Are The Most Romantic TV Scenes Ever

What are the most romantic TV scenes ever? Because love is so universal, there's really no escaping it. Just about every form of entertainment — movies, books, music — tends to focus on romance, and television is no exception. Whether or not you think of yourself as a romantic, odds are you've probably seen your fair share of romantic scenes on your favorite series, not matter what show that may be. And sure, there are the die-hard couplings in television, such as Ross and Rachel or Meredith and Derek, but even the more subtle couples are still sweet to watch.

Even the most hilarious sitcoms or the most dramatic dramas usually have one or two love scenes that take your breath away — unless it's a love scene that had to be cut for TV. But when it comes to romance, there are certain moments from certain shows that really do take the cake. So, ready to feel all the feels? Then keep reading because these are the most romantic TV scenes ever.

The romantic Niagara Falls wedding on The Office will cause waterworks

As funny as it was, The Office was also pretty romantic, especially when it came to Jim and Pam. In season 6, episodes 4 and 5, everyone traveled to Niagara Falls to see Jim and Pam get married. The two had been meant to be since the show premiered, so the wedding was obviously much anticipated. And while both the episodes in their entirety were full of romance, the scene where Jim and Pam actually get married could melt even the coldest of hearts.

In the romantic scene, Jim and Pam sneak away from their church wedding — where things were starting to get out of control — and get on a tour boat of the Falls. There's a fun song playing in the background as the happy couple gets the captain of the boat to marry them. Then they return to their wedding, happily married, all to do it again in front of their family and friends. It truly is the epitome of romance, and shows just how in love Jim and Pam were; all they wanted was to be together, no matter what circumstances they were in.

It's so romantic when Patrick serenades David on Schitt's Creek

The romantic relationship between Patrick and David might just be the best part of Schitt's Creek. In season 4, episode 6, while Patrick and David are somewhat still exploring their relationship, Patric takes things to the next level when he hosts an open mic night at Rose Apothecary, which he and David run together. During the event, he then serenades David. The scene is pretty intense, as fans didn't know how David would react to such a public display of affection, but that was kind of the point.

In an interview with GQ, Dan Levy, the actor who plays David, explained that they wanted to push David's limits. "What an interesting scenario to put David in, something that's so vulnerable, and something that he is so skeptical about," he said. And it worked. The scene was totally heartwarming and has even been called the most romantic scene on television by critics. It's clear that David is falling more and more in love, and that the two are totally meant to be. Seriously, grab the tissues because this scene has it all.

Ben and Leslie's wedding on Parks and Recreation was perfectly romantic

On Parks and Recreation, the romance between Leslie and Ben was a long time coming. At first, the two couldn't be together because it wasn't permitted at work, and then their relationship threatened to ruin Leslie's City Council election. So, the fact that they were finally going to get married was already exciting for fans. But their actual wedding really swept viewers off their feet.

Specifically, in season 5, when Leslie and Ben finally tied the knot, fans were definitely expecting loads of fanfare, sparkles, and waffles. And well, they got one of those things in the scene. But in a dramatic turn of events, Ben and Leslie's wedding plans fell through, and Leslie's team surprised her with a wedding in her office at City Hall. Obviously, getting married in the actual Parks and Recreation department was the most fitting venue for Leslie Knope, and her vows to Ben were iconic. "I love you and I like you," anyone? Talk about emotional wedding vows guaranteed to make you cry!

Luke had to get Lorelai's attention on Gilmore Girls in this romantic scene

Part of the charm of Gilmore Girls was definitely the long-standing relationship between Luke and Lorelai — and their hilarious, complex, and totally relatable dynamic. Where Lorelai was overly talkative, charismatic, and junk-food obsessed, Luke was quiet, reserved, and way more health conscious. And their best scene together totally amplified all of that, and more.

In fact, in the super romantic scene (which Scott Patterson, Luke himself, has said is his favorite from the series), Luke and Lorelai are arguing about whether or not there's anything more between them. In classic Luke and Lorelai fashion, they can't find any common ground until Luke finally stands his ground and tells Lorelai to stand still so he can kiss her. It's their first real kiss, and it totally set the tone for their entire romantic relationship. After all, who doesn't dream of being swept off their feet by a rugged diner owner with more flannels than a lumberjack?

It's romantic when Chuck and Blair get married despite everything on Gossip Girl

To say that Gossip Girl was a wild ride would be a massive understatement. The series followed a group of rich teenagers in Manhattan, but it was also so much more than that.

Additionally, Gossip Girl didn't just bring the drama — it also brought plenty of romance, especially between Chuck and Blair, who were arguably the best couple of the series. And the most romantic scene of the entire show might have just been their nuptials.

Chuck and Blair's wedding took place at the very end of the series, and there was a lot happening. Basically, the pair tied the knot rather quickly, in order to avoid Blair having to testify against Chuck for the murder of his father (yeah, it's intense, but the Gossip Girl books are even more scandalous than the show). Still, there's no denying the fact that the two were still very much in love, and likely would have gotten married anyway. And even though their wedding served a legal purpose, it was still gorgeous, meaningful, and the most romantic scene ever.

Damon and Elena's first kiss on The Vampire Diaries was so romantic

Listen, for as dark and broody as The Vampire Diaries was, it was also hella romantic. The series had two main couplings, and most fans were either team Damon or team Stefan when it came to who belonged with Elena. And while most of the early seasons focused on Elena and Stefan's connection, once she and Damon shared their first kiss, many fans switched sides and became Delena stans.

And honestly, who could blame them? The first kiss between Damon and Elena was so passionate and powerful, and felt like it had been a long time coming. Sure, Damon ended up questioning whether or not Elena's feelings towards him were real, but that kiss was one of the best first kisses in TV history! Even hardcore Team Stefan members had to admit there was something real between the two of them.

If that romantic scene wasn't enough to convince you, an Easter egg in The Vampire Diaries spinoff, Legacies, hinted that Damon and Elena had a daughter together (via BuzzFeed), so clearly, they're meant to be.

Barney's romantic proposal to Robin on How I Met Your Mother was sweet

As the entire premise of How I Met Your Mother was the love story between Ted and his future wife, it's no wonder that the series featured plenty of romantic moments. But the most romantic scene in the entire series didn't have anything to do with Ted. Rather, it was, in fact, when Barney proposed to Robin in the most legen — wait for it — dary way ever.

In the scene, Robin races to stop Barney from proposing to her frienemy, Patrice, only to find out that Barney and Patrice's entire relationship was fake all along. Robin also learns that Barney had been tricking her for months, all to end it right where she was standing by proposing to her.

Despite how you feel about Barney and Robin's relationship, which was a long time coming, the moment was seriously sweet, thoughtful, and undeniably romantic.

Nick and Jess' romantic first kiss was so steamy on New Girl

On New Girl, there really wasn't a more adorable pairing than quirky, bubbly Jess and stoic, hard-hearted Nick. The two were roommates and friends, and from the get-go it was clear that there was more going on between them, but neither one would admit it. So, when they shared their first kiss, the entire series changed in an instant, for the better.

In the romantic scene, Nick grabs Jess, and plants a passionate, steamy kiss on her lips — and it was seriously hot. But it wasn't just sexy for viewers at home, as series creator Liz Meriwether told Entertainment Weekly that everyone watching the scene being filmed felt the heats. "After he kissed her the whole crew started applauding," she said. "It just felt like we ignited something in the show."

And it did. Nick and Jess quickly became one of television's favorite couples, and that kiss took things to the next level.

Fitz's romantic speech to Olivia in Scandal was intense

The relationship between Olivia and Fitz on Scandal was honestly a once-in-a-lifetime kind of love. They definitely had their ups and downs, but when Fitz made his "I belong to you" speech to Olivia, it showed just how much they couldn't live without each other. It was truly one of the most romanticscenes in Scandal history. And for a show with so much murder, assault, affairs, kidnappings, and literal scandals? That's saying something.

At the beginning of the scene, Fitz points out just how well he knows Olivia by noting the differences in her pacing. Then, Olivia reveals how she feels controlled by Fitz because of their affair, but Fitz wont' have it. He cuts her off, and nearly yells at her that she controls him, because he is so in love with her. "I'm in love with you," he says. "You're the love of my life. My every feeling is controlled by the look on your face. I can't breathe without you. I can't sleep without you. I wait for you, I watch for you. I exist for you." Ugh, Fitz and Olivia's love is so real it hurts, and this scene proves it.

Monica flipped the script on Friends in this romantic scene

There's a reason Friends has remained one of the most popular sitcoms of all time, despite having ended in 2004. The show was hilarious, relatable, and also pretty romantic at times. And when Monica and Chandler went from being just friends to totally in love, the series took on a new dimension — and their proposal was even sweeter.

During the proposal episode, there's a ton of miscommunication going on. Chandler doesn't want to give away his plans, so he tries to throw Monica off the scent by saying he doesn't believe in marriage. Little did he know she would figure it out and eventually be the one to surprise him with an intimate, gorgeous, and moving proposal in their apartment. In the scene, Chandler walks in on Monica surrounded by candles, and down on her knees. It doesn't take long for them to both start crying.

The fact that Monica wanted to take matters into her own hands because she loved Chandler so much was seriously romantic, and totally fitting for them as a couple.

Derek's romantic proposal to Meredith on Grey's Anatomy was so touching

For as popular as Grey's Anatomy is, it's also pretty complicated. That's not surprising, as a show that's been on the air as long as Grey's Anatomy is bound to have its complex storylines. However, perhaps nothing on the show was as intense, drawn-out, and romantic as the relationship between Derek and Meredith. And while — spoiler! — they didn't exactly get their happy ending, they did get one magical moment in the elevator.

Specifically, in season 5, when Derek proposed to Meredith in the elevator, fans everywhere melted. In the romantic scene, Meredith tries to get on one elevator, but is stopped until a second elevator is available. When the doors open, Derek is standing there, surrounded by memorabilia from their relationship, and then proceeds to talk to Meredith about how much she means to him. Derek doesn't do a typical proposal down on his knee, he simply states, "I love you Meredith Grey, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you." Then the two seal the deal with a kiss.

Robert and Sol's romantic vows in Grace and Frankie were so moving

The Netflix original Grace and Frankie is seriously charming, as well as full of heart. Things get pretty romantic, too, such as at the end of season 1, when Robert and Sol prepared for their wedding. While there's still plenty of drama going on, Robert's vows to Sol are particularly moving. Obviously, the pair had to fight to be together for a long time, as they had to leave their wives for each other, so to see them happily in love and ready for marriage was something viewers had been waiting for.

In the scene, Sol has some not-so-great news to tell Robert, but Robert is busy writing his vows. "Sol, I love you for who you are and who I am with you," he wrote. "I am yours completely and forever. I take you as my partner for life, and I will give myself... to no other."

Those words take on a whole new meaning when Sol arrives and the season ends on a cliffhanger, making that scene equal parts romantic and dramatic.

Carrie finally got her romantic happy ending in Paris in Sex and the City

The iconic series Sex and the City captured the hearts of so many viewers while it was on the air. And while the show has received some pretty hilarious critiques since it first premiered, it remains one of the best examples of the rom-com genre out there — and the series finale proves why.

When Carrie heads off to Paris with one guy, who she quickly realizes isn't the one, she's doubtful she'll be happy. But then, like something out of a fairytale, her true love, Mr. Big, arrives to sweep her off her feet, and all is well.

The scene is memorable for any fan of the show, as Mr. Big was painted as a non-committal bachelor for so long, so his grand, romantic gesture truly was grand and romantic. However, the author behind the Sex and the City books didn't agree with that scene in particular. "Well, I think, in real life, Carrie and Big wouldn't have ended up together," Candace Bushnell told The Guardian. It might not have been the most authentic of endings, but it certainly was sweet.

The romantic scene where Rachel got off the plane on Friends is a classic

There probably isn't a television romance quite as memorable as Ross and Rachel in Friends. And to be honest, it was also pretty controversial. After all, Ross wasn't the most popular character, and not everyone was happy with the ending of Friends – or the way Rachel abandoned a huge opportunity for a man. Still, Rachel's decision in the series finale might be the most romantic scene in all of television.

Just when Ross had given up hope that Rachel would get off the plane, or at the very least call him again, the camera cuts to Rachel at his door. The words that then came out of her mouth would become legendary, as she tells him, "I got off the plane," and the two quickly rushed to embrace.

It was so amazing to see Ross and Rachel get their happy ending, and the fact that it was Rachel who made the decisions and surprised Ross made it even better. Because really, who doesn't want the love of their life to get off the plane and just be with them? Answer: no one.
