Love Scenes Actors Hated Filming

What love scenes did actors hate filming? The thing that makes watching a movie or television show so entertaining is that they both allow you to escape the real world, even if it's just for 20 minutes. Additionally, sometimes when you watch a movie or a television show, the on-screen chemistry can make you feel as if the actors playing the characters really are in love.

But, as intense as some of our favorite shows are, at the end of the day, the actors starring in them are just that, actors. They aren't their characters, and they have their own thoughts and feelings — and sometimes, those thoughts and feelings are that they can't stand what they're filming. Or perhaps they can't stand who they're filming with.

When it comes to intimate scenes, when actors have to strip down and pretend they're caught up in the heat of the moment, they can have very strong opinions about it. In fact, some actors wish they hadn't filmed some love scenes, and seriously regret doing so. So, read on to see what love scenes actors hated filming.

Kate Winslet wasn't happy about her big Titanic love scene

Titanic is a massively popular film, and has become one of the most iconic romance movies in history. And it's earned those titles, after all. The movie tells the true story of the Titanic's sinking, but the fictional love story between Jack and Rose is what made the movie great. In the film Rose, played by Kate Winslet, has a few steamy scenes with Jack, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. But perhaps one of the most memorable love scenes was when Jack drew Rose like one of his "French girls."

However, for Winslet, she has some regrets about filming that love scene. "There's a photo of it as well that someone has lifted from a still of the film, and that photo gets passed around too," she revealed in an interview with Yahoo! "I'm like 'No! I didn't mean for it to be a photograph that I would end up seeing still 17 years later.' It's still haunting me." Clearly, Winslet didn't love filming that part of Titanic and is a little embarrassed that it's still following her around.

Nicole Kidman's love scenes in Big Little Lies were tough to film

Nicole Kidman is a stellar actor, that's obvious; she's has played just about every kind of character out there. But on Big Little Lies, Kidman's character is seriously deep and intense. Celeste is in an abusive relationship with her husband, Perry (played by Alexander Skarsgard), and things get really dangerous in some scenes.

In an interview with W magazine, Kidman revealed that she really hated filming those love scenes, as they were fraught with so much violence and despair. "I felt very exposed and vulnerable and deeply humiliated at times," she said. "I mean, I remember lying on the floor in the bathroom at the very end when we were doing the scenes in episode seven...and I just wouldn't get up in-between takes." That's...a lot.

It couldn't have been easy for Kidman to play a character getting abused, and it's clear she kind of hated that part of Big Little Lies.

Emilia Clarke's scenes in Game of Thrones were scary

It's no secret that HBO's Game of Thrones was known for two things: its violence, and its vivid sex scenes. The show depicted everything from beheadings to incest; however, for one actor, the moments when she was naked and filming love scenes with her on-screen costar, Jason Momoa, were difficult. Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, actually kind of hated filming while nude.

In an interview with The Guardian, Clarke said that she hated filming those vulnerable love scenes. "I'd been on a film set twice before then, and I'm now on a film set completely naked with all of these people, and I don't know what I'm meant to do, and I don't know what's expected of me," she explained.

Fortunately, since then, Clarke has learned to stand up for herself. She explained that she's refused to get nude on set for other projects — she even turned down the lead part in Fifty Shades of Grey, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Hey, it might not have been something Clarke loved, but filming those Game of Thrones love scenes definitely taught her a lot.

Jamie Dornan felt awkward filming Fifty Shades of Grey

Basically, the entire premise of Fifty Shades of Grey was that a woman entered into an intense relationship with a man, and they had a lot of bondage-enhanced intimacy. Yes, really. Still, both the books and movies were hugely successful, but as the plot focused largely on love scenes, there were some awkward moments on set. In fact, Jamie Dornan, who played Christian Grey, kind of hated filming those scenes.

In an interview with The Guardian, Dornan explained that while they were careful while filming, it was complicated. "You don't want to make something gratuitous, and ugly, and graphic," he said. Still, he added that he made sure he wasn't too uncomfortable. "There were contracts in place that said that viewers wouldn't be seeing my, um..." if you catch his drift.

While he starred in Fifty Shades of Grey, Dornan told The Irish Sun, "a part of me still can't really believe I did those films. There's an element in me that's going, 'why did they make movies out of those books?'" Clearly, Dornan felt awkward filming Fifty Shades, but at least there was some element of privacy for him.

Marie Schneider didn't like certain aspects of Last Tango in Paris

The 1972 film Last Tango in Paris was widely regarded as a good movie, and filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci won many awards for it (via Vox). However, Marie Schneider, who starred in the movie, revealed that what went on behind the scenes was just as disturbing as the plot of the movie itself.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Schneider revealed that she was highly uncomfortable and disturbed by the infamous butter scene during filming with Marlon Brando. "That scene wasn't in the original script," she said. "The truth is it was Marlon who came up with the idea." And while the "love scene" may have become iconic, Schneider hated filming it. "I was so angry," she continued. "I felt humiliated and to be honest, I felt a little raped, both by Marlon and by Bertolucci." Yikes.

Schneider felt very strongly about Last Tango in Paris, and it's sad that she had to go through such a traumatic filming experience.

Dakota Johnson had issues with Fifty Shades of Grey

While Dakota Johnson — who's undergone a stunning transformation — played the timid, yet adventurous Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades movies, she wasn't shy about her feelings while filming. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Johnson explained that she never got used to filming the love scenes, and it took her a while to get mentally prepared for what she was about to have to do on set. "Over the course of the three films, it never got easier. It wasn't like, 'Oh, this old thing,' you know?"

Additionally, Johnson revealed another reason she pretty much hated filming love scenes for the movies. "Filming a sex scene is not a sensual or pleasurable environment," Johnson told Time. "It's just sweaty and it's not very comfortable."

Hey, being tied up in your skivvies, with a costar and crew members staring at you while you get spanked with a prop doesn't exactly sound like a great time, that's for sure.

Jennifer Lawrence hated her love scene in Passengers

Jennifer Lawrence is well-regarded for her impressive acting skills, as well as for her sense of humor. However, one thing even the most devout J-Law fans might not know about her is that she tends to hate filming love scenes. Well, more specifically, she hated filming her love scene with Chris Pratt in Passengers, due to one interesting reason.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence revealed that she was incredibly anxious when it was time to get intimate with Pratt. "I got really, really drunk," she confessed. "But then that led to more anxiety when I got home because I was like, 'What have I done? I don't know.'"

The reason Lawrence was so nervous? Pratt was married while they were making Passengers, which really bothered her. "It was going to be my first time kissing a married man, and guilt is the worst feeling in your stomach," she continued. "And I knew it was my job, but I couldn't tell my stomach that." Fortunately for Lawrence, she somehow she made it through.

Jessica Brown Findlay didn't stand up for herself in Albatross

Unfortunately, the entertainment industry has proven to be rought on women, particularly women who are trying to make their big break. While the same can be said for men trying to break into the industry, women have a harder time saying "no" on set, at least when they're new to acting. Like Emilia Clarke explained, Game of Thrones taught her she has a right to stand up for herself, something Jessica Brown Findlay learned while filming a revealing scene in Albatross.

As Brown told Radio Times, she really kind of hated filming a particular nude scene, as it made her uncomfortable. "To be honest, Albatross was naïveté and not knowing that I could say no," she revealed. "I had no idea what was going to happen and thought I was going to be shot from behind. It's not something I would do again."

As awful as Findlay felt while filming the love scene in Albatross, she at least recognized that she'll never have to do it again if she doesn't want to.

Kim Cattrall was grossed out by one actor on Sex and the City

With a show like Sex and the City, viewers expected to see plenty of, well, intimacy. The title definitely made that very clear, but there were still some love scenes that some of the actors kind of hated filming. And for Kim Cattrall, who played perhaps the most adventurous character on the show, Samantha Jones, one love scene had her practically gagging.

In an interview with Piers Morgan on his show (via the Daily Mail), Cattrall revealed that there was a certain scene, with a certain actor (who she wouldn't name) that ended up being gross, and she despised doing it. "I was working with an actor and we were doing the scene, and he is on top of me, and then he collapsed — and then he farted," she explained. Um...wow.

Cattrall added that she later learned the actor had been on a diet and had passed out from hunger. Still, "It was pretty gross," she continued. Honestly, no matter what diet he was on, that had to have been disgusting for Cattrall.

Shailene Woodley didn't love filming intimate scenes

Shailene Woodley has undergone a stunning transformation. The actor has gone from starring in teenage dramas to co-starring alongside the likes of Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep during her career. But even though she's a true professional, she's still hated filming some love scenes in her career, and her reasoning why makes total sense.

While speaking to Page Six, Woodley revealed that there was one kind of love scene she hated the most: the kind that featured intimacy with people she had no connection with. "It's always an awkward situation when you have to pretend to be intimate with someone that you're not actually intimate with," she said. We hope she's not talking about Theo James!

However, Woodley did acknowledge that, "the awkwardness probably lends itself to these great virginity scenes," which is probably true. It may have been less-than-comfortable for her, but it made for great viewership for the audience in White Bird in a Blizzard.

Kristen Stewart felt the pressure in Twilight

There's certainly no denying the fact that the Twilight franchise was entertaining and successful. But that doesn't mean the stars of the movie enjoyed every aspect of filming. And for Kristen Stewart, who played Bella Swan in the films, she definitely hated filming the most intense love scene in the movies, for a totally understandable reason.

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, Stewart explained that she really felt the pressure while filming the big love scene with Robert Pattinson, and she didn't like it. "On Twilight, we had to do the most epic sex scene of all time," she shared. "It had to be transcendent and otherworldly, inhuman, better sex than you can possibly ever imagine." No pressure, right?

Because of that expectation, "we were so self-consciously aware of that, me and Rob and the producers," Stewart continued. "It was agony." Given that Pattinson and Stewart fell in love on set, according to People, that's saying a lot!

Mila Kunis has never been a fan of intense love scenes

Some movie or television scenes just stick with you, long after you first watch them; Black Swan was full of incredibly memorable scenes like that, though were more intense than others. And they sometimes took a toll on the actors.

In particular, the love scene between stars Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman was particularly difficult for Kunis — but not for the reasons you might think. "It's hard to have a sex scene, period," Kunis told reporters (via HuffPost). "It doesn't matter if it's a friend, a male, a female. You're with 100-something crew members, lighting you, repositioning you, there's no comfort whatsoever."

Additionally, both Portman and Kunis also admitted that shooting a love scene with a friend made it even more difficult. And while the chemistry between Portman and Kunis in Black Swan was definitely there, Kunis still hated filming the love scene.

Blake Lively was uncomfortable filming The Town

Looking at Blake Lively's career, one might think that the actor is totally comfortable shooting intimate and steamy scenes. After all, Blake Lively has undergone a stunning transformation. But, despite her performance in Gossip Girl and other projects, Lively has still had some issues filming love scenes. In particular, Lively opened up about her work in The Town, which she starred in alongside Ben Affleck, and how she had a difficult time filming their love scene.

Speaking to Interview magazine, Lively explained that she struggled with her self-esteem during those vulnerable moments. "We're all only so confident," she revealed. "It doesn't mean we think we're great looking or anything. It's all a facade."

It didn't help that it was Lively's first day on set when she had to get hot and heavy with Affleck. And while she was obviously was able to work past her issues on set with her co-star, it's clear that shooting that specific love scene was something Lively kind of hated.

Justin Timberlake was exhausted filming Friends with Benefits

Though most people might associate Justin Timberlake with his teen heartthrob days in the boy band, NSYNC, he actually has quite the acting career. One of his films, the romantic comedy Friends with Benefits, saw Timberlake get in numerous compromising positions with co-star, Mila Kunis. And while the movie itself was entertaining, cute, and funny, Timberlake actually hated having to film his love scenes with Kunis.

While talking to BBC about the movie, Timberlake revealed that he didn't look forward to that scene because it was draining. "It's actually kind of annoying, you're there for 12 hours, it's exhausting," he said. "All those scenes revolve around the dialogue and physical humor is so tiring."

However, Timberlake added that he felt old, and that might be what rendered him so beat. Whatever the case, Timberlake definitely didn't enjoy getting down and dirty with Kunis, which is surprising considering how stunning the actors both are.
