Amy Schumer's Famous Relative Might Surprise You

Amy Schumer and Chuck Schumer may run in very different circles and have wildly different professions, but they're actually related, per Refinery29. Perhaps you know Amy from her sketch comedy series Inside Amy Schumer and Chuck from his long-running position as a Democratic New York senator, but one detail you may not know is how closely bonded the pair are.

It's easy for fans to wonder if celebrities with the same last names are related. In some cases, that's actually true, with examples like Melissa McCarthy and Jenny McCarthy, who are cousins. There are some who don't share the same last name, but are still surprisingly related, like Prince Charles and actor Ralph Fiennes (eighth cousins), and Beyonce and actress Bianca Lawson (step-sisters), per Good Housekeeping. There are also cases where celebrities share the same last name but aren't related, like Katherine Hepburn and Audrey Hepburn or Kerry Washington and Denzel Washington (via Refinery29).

But one delightfully surprising familial pair is Amy and Chuck Schumer. Chuck is the first cousin of Amy's father, making the I Feel Pretty actress and American politician first cousins, once removed. In short, they're cousins. Perhaps Amy and Chuck Schumer both have a natural affinity for the spotlight, even if it plays out in different spheres.

Amy Schumer is supportive of her family relative, Chuck Schumer

Amy Schumer is outspoken about her democratic political beliefs, and in turn, has supported her cousin Chuck Schumer in his endeavors to push those beliefs and policy positions forward in the American political system, as reported by Refinery29. When President Trump accused Chuck of crying "fake tears," Amy came to the senator's defense in a lengthy Instagram post. "Also I know Chuck Schumer and HE CANNOT act trust me," she wrote. "He can barely smile on cue. He can't help but be transparent and genuine."

However, their partnership into political action isn't really new, as Amy held a press conference with Chuck in 2015 calling for stricter gun control following a fatal shooting at a screening of her movie, Trainwreck. During the press conference, both Schumers presented a three-pronged plan designed for tackling gun violence.

During the event, a reporter asked if she was expecting backlash for advocating for gun control and she said she was prepared for it, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Amy explained she's been dealing with online hate for 10 years and she's used to it. She said it was worth it because "I want to be proud of how I'm living."
