When You Do Squats Every Day, This Is What Happens To Your Body

Hate them or love them, squats have serious benefits. As Dr. Christopher Stepien, a sports therapist and chronic pain expert, told The Active Times, "Fifty squats a day will keep the doctor away — seriously," adding, "Daily squats will help you mentally and will even give you better yearly check-ups with your primary physician." But what exactly happens to your body when you do squats every single day?

Unsurprisingly, doing squats every day makes you a whole lot stronger and less prone to injury. "So many actions can stem from the movements of a squat, from picking up your toddler to loading boxes into the house after a delivery," Katrina Pilkington, an NASM-certified personal trainer who specializes in women and youth, explained to Women's Health. "If you work to perform squats on a regular basis, using form that is on-point, you're sure to avoid injuries, and build a strong foundation for functional movement."

Better still, by doing squats every day, you're strengthening your core and pretty much signing yourself up for rock hard abs (via Harvard Health Publishing). You're also likely to notice improved posture by default.

Doing squats every day is believed to help reduce cellulite and assist weight loss

According to fitness professional Asif Shaikh, doing squats on the regular can also help with cellulite, even prevent it. Speaking with the Times of India, Shaikh noted that the "stretching" motion of the lower-body exercise and resultant "enhanced circulation" can help people tone their muscles and firm up the skin of the legs.

For those looking to shift some fat, squats can help. However, you'll need to be doing more than just regular air squats to burn calories. "As the person advances and the air squats become easier, they should try regular squats and jump squat intervals because it will keep their heart rate high and in the anaerobic part of their workout," personal trainer and dietitian Jim White, RD, told PopSugar. "Then weights should be added to the squats that will lead to more calories being burned, as well as increasing the BMR (basal metabolic rate) and cardiovascular for burning a higher amount of fat."

With an endless list of benefits, it looks like it's time to drop it like a squat!
