The Touching Character Tribute In Wonder Woman 1984 You Missed
Where would we be without Easter eggs? And we're not talking about the candy kind (although those are good, too), we're talking about the choice moments, the cameos, and the blink-and-you-miss-it bits in movies and TV shows that are hidden in plain sight to be found.
One of those Easter eggs made it into Wonder Woman 1984, and it's for a character we love — Etta Candy, who was Steve Trevor's secretary and becomes a friend of Gal Gadot's World War I civilian alter ego Diana Prince in the original Wonder Woman. But Etta's surprise appearance wasn't as obvious as it could have been, and for some fans, they really needed to be told. Fortunately, Lucy Davis, who plays Etta, thoughtfully provided the callout on social media.
Davis' Twitter post reads: "Did you catch the little photo of elderly Etta who remained friends with Diana all along. It was so good to say hi and catch up with everyone for just one day. Plus this photo will now be my online dating profile picture. #thatwillsealthedeal #ettacandy". Along with the caption are two images: one with Davis and Gadot in the original Wonder Woman, and the second showing a visibly older Candy (also played by Davis) and Gadot in a framed photograph.
The cameo tells WW fans Diana and Etta never lost touch
Critics and fans might have given Wonder Woman 1984 a "we're not too sure about this," 61% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer, but they didn't hold back on social media when it came to sharing their thoughts on the bit of nostalgia Etta Candy and the woman who plays her, Lucy Davis, brought to the film.
"Etta Candy is the hero I want to see. It's easy to be heroic with super powers & dad's a god. What about being a normal person, fighting a war around that, and being in a spy org making a difference? Then going to the Cold War? Thanks for giving her life, @RealLucyDavis," one Twitter user said in reply to Davis' post. Another noted: "I blinked and missed like an idiot. Now I wanna see a film about just Diana and Etta being pals throughout the 20th century!"
To a few, the moment brought home the reality that Wonder Woman had to live with watching those she loved grow older, while she remained the same: "I cried because it means Diana at some point had to say goodbye to Sammy, Chief, Charlie and Etta," another Twitter user said.
