The Real Reason James Corden Just Partnered With WW

James Corden is hoping 2021 is the year he ends the vicious cycle of trying to lose weight and failing. The comedian and host is partnering with WW β€” formerly known at Weight Watchers β€” in an effort to focus on his wellness as well as weight loss (via People).

In a press release announcing the partnership, The Late Late Show host explained about his decision to be the new face of WW, "I want to change the way that I live. I want to be better for my children and for my family." He elaborated, "I don't want to wake up tired, or feel embarrassed when I'm chasing my son on the soccer field and out of breath after three minutes."

Corden also clarified that his weight is not the only issue, noting, "It's the wellness of it I am ready to tackle. I'm going to take this year and work towards getting healthy."

In the press release, which announced 100,000 digital memberships will be awarded to those who are enduring financial hardship given the pandemic, Corden also said, "If 2020 taught us anything it was that taking care of yourself has to be a priority." He went on to state, "I called WW because I absolutely believe that they have the tools in place to help me make this change."

In a raw and personal video, the 42-year-old also shared, "I've realized that every year for the past decade β€” probably even 15 years β€”on January the first I've told myself and anyone that would listen that I'm going on a diet, I'm going to lose a load of weight" (via Page Six). He added, "I'm fed up with the way I look, I'm fed up with being unhealthy, this is the year I'm doing it. Because of that, over Christmas I've eaten everything that's in the fridge because in my head in January I'm starting this diet and it'll be a success. And as you can see it hasn't."

The star also emotionally shared, "It's starting to get me down in a way. I've never been able to stick to anything like that. I've spent a long time accepting that this is my body and that's it. But I really am sick and tired of just doing the same thing every year."
