DWTS' Witney Carson Makes A Scary Admission About The Birth Of Her Son

In January, Dancing With the Stars pro Witney Carson gave birth to her first child, a son, with her husband Carson McAllister (via E! Online). She shared certain harrowing details of the delivery via Instagram, writing at the time, "After a really hard 24 hour labor, and an unexpected c-section... we are all healthy and well. We are so grateful & we've been soaking up every moment with our perfect angel boy. Thank you for all the prayers!" But it turns out there was more going on behind the scenes than fans knew.

In new Instagram posts shared during a Q&A, Carson confessed, "So I've debated sharing this or not ... but yes we did have COVID when Leo was born" (via Good Morning America). The pro went on to share that her husband and parents also got sick. About her mom and dad, whom she spread the disease to over the holidays, Carson said, "They weren't out of quarantine yet and had to meet their grandson for the first time through a window [and it] literally broke my heart into pieces."

Other star moms who have battled COVID while pregnant

Sadly, Carson is not the first celebrity to test positive for COVID while expecting, with a pregnant Shawn Johnson sharing she was infected with a "mild case" (via People). On Instagram, the gymnast shared she was suffering from a cough and headache at the time, but has since recovered. Counting On's Joy-Anna Duggar also tested positive for COVID during her pregnancy, noting about her symptoms and those of her husband, "We both had body aches, slight fever and lost our taste and smell" (via Us Weekly).

We don't know what symptoms Carson suffered with — but it seems like Duggar and Johnson, she has since recovered. Meanwhile, according to the Centers for Disease Control, pregnant women may be at an increased risk of developing severe illness from COVID-19. We are just so glad that by all accounts, the stars who have talked about their experiences with the illness during pregnancy, and their babies, seem healthy at this time.
