Why The Queen Refused To See Prince Harry After Megxit

More and more information surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's relationship with the royal family continues to come out as CBS releases parts of their bombshell interview that didn't fit in Sunday night's special. From who made the incredibly damning comments about their son's skin color to Harry's relationship with the queen, these extra segments prove just as revealing as the interview itself.

People reports that the queen cancelled her meeting with her grandson following his announcement that he and his wife would be stepping back as senior members of the royal family. Prince Harry told Oprah that his family, including the queen, received word of their decision in late December while the couple was in Canada. Upon hearing the news, she asked them to come meet with her once they came back to the UK for a brief visit.

Prince Harry explained that the couple returned after they had made their decision and he planned to speak with his grandmother. "And to then, get back on the 6th, after my grandmother had said, 'The moment you land come up to [Sandringham House estate], we'd love to have a chat. Come for tea, why don't you stay for dinner?'" he revealed. However, upon arrival in England, advisors to the queen told him that she could not meet due to a previous engagement. When Prince Harry then spoke to his grandmother directly, she reportedly noted to him, "Yes, there's something in my diary that I didn't know that I had," adding that the rest of her week was busy as well.

Prince Harry said that they left the UK, in part, due to racism

In other previously unaired clips, Prince Harry dove into more of the reasons that he and his wife decided to leave the UK, CBS reports. As for the queen's apparent snub and cancelling of their meeting, the 36-year-old explained that she often gets "bad advice."

After Oprah asked if the queen could just have done what she wanted and met with the couple anyway, Harry said that she doesn't have the pull that many assume. "When you're head of the firm, there are people around you that give you advice, and what has also made me really sad is that some of that advice has been really bad," he said.

When asked if they left because of racism, he explained that it was "a large part of" the reason, the outlet notes. He shared that after discussing the bigotry of the UK press, Prince Harry found that it likely influenced the way the public saw him and his wife. "But unfortunately, if the source of information is inherently corrupt or racist or biased, then that filters out to the rest of society," he said to the media mogul.

Sparking conversations around mental health, race, and their complications in society, the bombshell interview has sent shock waves across the pond. From the revelations about the queen and her position to the question of racism with the royal family, the interview certainly left little to the imagination.
