The Truth About Queen Elizabeth's First Official Engagement Since Meghan And Harry's Tell-All

Less than a week after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, Queen Elizabeth made a public appearance on Friday, March 12, People reports.

The Queen, age 94, took part in a video call in recognition of British Science Week. Also on the call were scientists, educators, and students. She has been a longtime supporter of the sciences, and during the call she spoke about her 1961 visit with Yuri Gagarin after his return from space.

"It was very interesting to meet him. And I suppose being the first one, it was particularly fascinating," she said, referencing the fact that Gagarin was the first human to go to space (via People). At the conclusion of the call, the Queen told the group that it had been "very interesting" to hear their insights and thanked them for the "wonderful work" they're doing, adding that she hoped the children had enjoyed it as well.

The Queen issued a statement about Harry and Meghan's interview earlier this week

Harry and Meghan's interview was filled with jaw-dropping moments, but two in particular were especially disturbing. The couple stated that there were "concerns and conversations" in the royal family about their son Archie's skin tone prior to his birth (via People). Meghan also shared that she experienced suicidal thoughts, but said that her requests for help were rebuffed. The couple declined to say who exactly discussed Archie's skin tone, but Oprah confirmed that Harry told her it wasn't the Queen or Prince Philip.

On the evening of March 9, two days after the interview aired, the Queen issued the following statement: "The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan," it read (via CNBC). "The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members."
