Jessica Simpson Reveals How She Really Felt When Ex Nick Lachey Got Married

Jessica Simpson has opened up about her divorce from ex husband Nick Lachey. In an excerpt taken from the brand new paperback edition of her 2020 memoir, Open Book, Simpson recalls the heartbreak she experienced upon discovering Nick was dating his now-wife, Vanessa Lachey, a matter of months after their 2006 divorce (via E! Online).

In the updated memoir, which includes a brand new introduction and diary-style entries, the singer and actress penned, "So, Nick, you're with another already? Seems that you forgot the love you spoke to me." She continued, "I'm saddened beyond belief. Alone in the dark, with no one to call my own."

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in 2020, the Newlyweds star also revealed one of the reasons for the divorce was her increasingly busy, and independent work-schedule. "With Nick, I was 22 years old when we got married ... Once I started to get endorsement deals that were separate from him, there was a little bit of tension," she explained.

Nick and Jessica have both remarried

Today, however, Simpson appears to have let bygones be bygones, admitting the pair were both "at fault in a lot of things" during their short-lived marriage. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she continued, "He's married with three beautiful children ... He took heartbreak and made it into something beautiful."

The former love birds tied the knot in October 2002 and divorced in November 2005 after three years of marriage, most of which was captured throughout all three seasons of MTV's hit reality series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica (via Us Weekly). Months after the divorce, Lachey was dating his current wife Vanessa who he eventually married in 2011 (via Billboard). The couple have since gone on to have three children together, Camden, Brooklyn, and Pheonix.

As The Sun reports, Simpson has also moved on and married former NFL player Eric Johnson in July 2014, with whom she shares three children, son Ace and daughters Maxwell and Birdie.
