The Truth About Gigi Hadid And Zayn Malik's Insanely Glamorous Life

Few couples have been as gawked at and talked about as mush as Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik, and it's no wonder. The pairing of supermodel Hadid (according to Fashionista, she's been on over 30 international Vogue covers!) and the brooding, tattooed former One Direction member Malik is the stuff Hollywood dreams are made of. From their first hints of coupledom in 2015 to their multiple very public breakups and reconciliations to their current state of domestic bliss (and parenthood!), it sometimes seems as if they're living out a glamorous real-life soap opera just for our enjoyment.

Seriously, though, it's got to be rough for them knowing their love life and most personal feelings about each other are always under a public microscope. But their epic wealth and showbiz connections give them plenty of creature comforts to cushion the blow of bad days and make good days even better. Money can't buy happiness — but it does give Hadid and Malik a lifestyle the rest of us can only dream about.

Zayn Malik is no stranger to luxury homes

Buying your first home while still in your 20s is considered a badge of honor, and Zayn Malik achieved this goal many times over — he's owned homes in New York, California, England, and Pennsylvania. And none were exactly starter houses. His $4.6 million Herfordshire villa, which was shown in the video for his hit "Still Got Time," features four bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a spacious roof deck, according to Architectural Digest. His 2,334-square-foot Bel-Air retreat, which he bought for $3.1 million back in 2015, has its own recording studio as well as an illuminated galaxy design on a hallway's ceiling. And as Architectural Digest noted, his New York "bachelor pad" is not exactly a studio with a futon on the floor. The $10.7 million penthouse is huge with 3,597 square feet, 12-foot ceilings, and heated marble bathroom floors.

But don't expect to see him at these places anymore. In 2018, he put his Los Angeles and Herfordshire digs on the market. (According to The Sun, he moved his home base to New York to be closer to Hadid.) And as reported by The Real Deal, he sold his New York penthouse in 2020.

Zayn Malik also has a huge farm near Gigi Hadid's mother's home

Zayn Malik sold three of his luxury homes by 2020, but don't worry about him being homeless. Instead, he's decided to unplug and immerse himself in the pleasures of country living. According to Billboard, he now spends most of his time on his remaining property — a sprawling working farm in rural Pennsylvania. "[The farm] is just out of the way and feels grounded," he told Billboard. "There's not a lot of things around. I do a lot of farm work." He noted, "I take the horses out and feed the cows and that kind of stuff. It's cool. I've always been interested in animals." There's also a recording studio close by for the days when he needs to get back to work.

His choice of location for his farm is no coincidence — it's just a stone's throw away from the equally sumptuous farm owned by Gigi Hadid's mom, former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Hadid. It was Yolanda's suggestion, he told GQ, that he buy property in the area. And it's on the farm where Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid will raised their daughter, as the model told Vogue.

Here's what was in Gigi Hadid's pricey post-pregnancy makeup kit

No woman feels her prettiest right after having a baby. It's normal to feel stretched to your limit and a bit deflated, both physically and emotionally. And not even a supermodel like Gigi Hadid is immune. Being a new mom means a regular beauty routine isn't always an option. "Sometimes I go a week without touching makeup," she told Vogue.

Still, she has a go-to collection of favorite products to perfect her dewy postpartum look. Her beauty secrets include both luxury items (such as Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream at $48 for 1.69 ounces and Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Face Primer at $55 for 1.35 ounces) and a few drugstore favorites.  And her full routine takes finesse — and a sizeable investment. Before even touching makeup, she applies both cream and moisturizing serum (Odacité Mo+P Very Dry Skin Moringa Petitgrain Serum Concentrate, $46 for a petite 0.17-ounce bottle). Next she builds a careful base of primer and another Charlotte Tilbury favorite, Hollywood Flawless Filter ($44 an ounce), before moving on to foundation and contouring. And prepping her lips alone is a multi-step process that starts with lip balm, followed by lip liner, lipstick, and finally a touch of gloss.

Obviously, a full makeup look isn't always a realistic goal for new moms, and Hadid feels your pain. "Just remind yourself that you're doing the best you can," she told Vogue, noting, "And if you brushed your hair this week, I'm really proud of you."

Gigi Hadid's quirky New York apartment didn't come cheap

No one can accuse Gigi Hadid of being a shrinking violet. One look at her exuberantly colorful New York apartment will confirm that she loves making a big statement — and will spend the time and money it takes to get the look she wants. Her $5.8 million townhouse is one of two she owns in the same building, and she eventually plans to combine them, according to the New York Post.

"Spent all of last year designing and curating my passion project / dream spot," Hadid shared in an Instagram post. "I'm excited for the time I'll get to spend enjoying all the special corners." So what's in all these special corners? A bright orange-and-gray Missoni couch, glass cabinet fronts filled with dyed dried pasta, throw pillows by Jean Paul Gaultier, and a glam room with a bright gold carpet.

All these decorative touches are pricey (a Missoni couch can go for $25,000) — and controversial. Hadid has gotten some flack for her decorating choices, according to Harper's Bazaar. But a woman's home is her castle and, in this case, an unapologetically unique and quirky one.

Zayn Malik is all for spending money to look sharp

Zayn Malik shares Gigi Hadid's love of fashion and flair for looking amazing — which is a good thing, since a memorable trademark look is a basic job requirement for any superstar. According to Teen Vogue, his smooth evolution from wholesome boy band member to the edgy, boundary-busting artist we see today can be credited in part to his personal stylist, Jason Rembert, whose previous clients included stars such as Nicki Minaj. Rembert helped set up Malik with just the right designer pieces for his new image, but told Teen Vogue that Malik already had an idea of the kind of look he wanted — an "edgy" and "cool" vibe that fit his preference for dark clothing.

But don't be fooled by those fashionable boots and torn jeans — his casual rocker look requires serious investment. Malik loves boots by Tommy Hilfiger, Giuseppe, and Guidi (one of his favorite pairs of Guidi boots cost a cool $1,200). He also keeps his eyes open for interesting new designers.

And Rembert also turned him on to vintage Rolex watches and Cartier jewelry — an insanely pricey addiction that can quickly cost tens of thousands of dollars, but one Malik is lucky to easily afford.

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik's baby has her own designer wardrobe too

We all knew Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik's baby daughter, Khai, would be living in style — but we had no idea how much style she'd get to enjoy just a few weeks after being born. On her Instagram Stories, according to InStyle, Hadid shared photos of some of the amazing swag sent to both her and her little one by celebrity friends and design houses she's worked with. Some of these goodies included hand-painted jeans and baby tees by Los Angeles designer Juliet Johnstone (whose products go for up to $500); pacifiers, books, and pajamas from "Uncle" Jimmy Fallon; and pajamas for Hadid and baby clothes from Lanvin. Their gifts also included a gold bracelet featuring a diamond and a sapphire, representing her and her daughter's respective birthstones.

In a gracious thank you note posted on her Stories, Hadid suggested this was just a fraction of the awesome loot the family has received. "I am overwhelmed with how many beautiful things this little one has already been spoiled with by people I love — and I will slowly probably share them," she wrote. "BUT thank you cards are on their way."

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik spare no expense when it comes to the Met Gala

People-watchers know that simply being invited to the Met Gala means you've made it — if you're not an A-list actor or model, you're a major philanthropist or seriously successful business tycoon. So it's no surprise Gigi Hadid has been a Met Gala regular for several years. (Zayn Malik has also been invited, but went only once — as he told GQ, it's really not his thing.)

It's probably smart to stay home if you're not feeling it, because attending the Met Gala is a serious investment. According to Fortune, tickets are $30,000 each, and buying a table for you and your BFFs will set you back $275,000, though sometimes brands purchase tables for certain guests. And then there's dressing for the occasion: Your outfit must not only be befitting of the high-watt megastar you are, but it must also fit the year's theme. For 2016's theme Manus x Machina, for example, Hadid and Malik turned heads with their complementary outfits, according to Harper's Bazaar: a futuristic gown by Tommy Hilfiger for her and a minimalist Versace suit with armored sleeves for him. It's unclear what these cost, but we do know her crystal-studded manicure cost $2,000. And according to The Cut, some guests have spent as much as $35,000 on Met Gala gowns.

Their baby's nursery is loaded with extravagant touches

Gigi Hadid spared no expense putting together the perfect nursery for her daughter, Khai — and it's a far cry from the usual fluffy pink and white decorating scheme we'd expect for a very pampered little girl. In a series of Instagram photos taken shortly before Khai was born, Hadid shared several photos of the spacious nursery. It's a space bigger than most  living rooms in warm earth tones with a distinctive tropical boho vibe — lots of rattan, teak, and fringed pillows.

But don't let the casual, rustic look deceive you — none of the lovingly curated items in the space came cheap. According to the Daily Mail, the hand-carved Anthropologie dresser sells for $1,598, the rattan daybed sells for $998, and the teak crib by Sacred Bundle (we all have teak baby cribs in our kids' rooms, right?) goes for $1,249. Even the throw pillows covering the daybed were a bit of a splurge — well over $2,000 worth, each priced between $88 and $390.

During the 2020 lockdown, Gigi Hadid quarantined in style

For a lot of us, the 2020 COVID-19 quarantine sucked. On top of the stress of worrying about the well-being of friends and family was the boredom and claustrophobia of being stuck at home, not to mention the stress of trying not to snap at irritating family members or roommates. Luckily for her, Gigi Hadid had no such worries — she chose to spend the shutdown with her mother, Yolanda Hadid, and her sister, fellow supermodel Bella Hadid, with whom she is famously close.

Best of all, none of them had to worry about getting into each other's space. According to The Sun, they all sheltered in Yolanda's $4 million, 32-acre farm in rural Pennsylvania, which she purchased in 2017 so she could be closer to her daughters. The estate offers more than enough room for personal space and privacy, as well as family time. It features a spacious and airy stone farmhouse built in 1781, horse stables, a fire pit, and a botanical garden. There are also several cottages on the property in case the farmhouse starts to feel small. And best of all for Gigi Hadid — it's not far from Zayn Malik's own farm a short distance away.

Their glamorous photo spreads in Vogue have raised eyebrows

For Gigi Hadid, appearing in Vogue is almost routine, and readers have come to expect her face on the cover. But her photo spreads in Vogue with her beau Zayn Malik are another matter — they get people talking. Their first Vogue spread together — shot in Naples, Italy — debuted in April 2016, when their relationship was still only being whispered about. Putting two attractive people together in a glitzy photo shoot wouldn't normally raise eyebrows, but as USA Today noted, the obvious chemistry between them and the fact they had their hands all over each other erased any doubt that they were an item.

Their second Vogue shoot, however, triggered another kind of debate. In an essay and photo spread on gender fluidity and fashion, Hadid and Malik appeared together in complementary ensembles — such as an exuberantly flowered Gucci track suit for Malik and a red track suit by Marc Jacobs for Hadid. Their clothes weren't an issue, but queer activists took umbrage at an obviously straight couple being celebrated as representatives of gender fluidity, according to PopSugar. Vogue later apologized and promised to "[continue] the conversation with greater sensitivity."

Their awards show appearances always make a splash

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik can't attend an award show without making an impression. In 2016, Hadid memorably served as a co-host of the American Music Awards (along with Saturday Night Live star Jay Pharoah). Some armchair critics on social media panned her performance, calling it "cringeworthy," according to The Wrap, but the event wasn't a loss for Hadid. As reported by Teen Vogue, Malik was nominated for — and won! — his first American Music Award as a solo artist, so she had reason to celebrate that night.

The couple even has the star power to make a splash at awards shows they don't even attend. In 2017, Malik and Hadid skipped the iHeartRadio Music Awards (which coincided with Paris Fashion Week, according to Harper's Bazaar), but this didn't mean they weren't there in spirit. Upon learning he'd won the Best Music Video award for his steamy hit video for "Pillowtalk," in which Hadid starred, he immediately posted a video on Twitter, thanking his fans, with Hadid making a surprise appearance to blow a kiss at their virtual audience.

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik's net worth is jaw-dropping

No need to wonder how Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik manage to pay for their luxury homes and enormous designer wardrobes — they're definitely not hurting for cash. Hadid grew up wealthy. After her parents' divorce when she was 8, her father, a successful real estate developer known for working with high-end properties, paid her mother a settlement that included $30,000 a month in child support, a $6 million Malibu home, and a Santa Barbara mansion, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Today, Hadid is more than able to sustain her childhood lifestyle. Her net worth is $29 million, much of it from contracts with Versace, Maybelline, BMW, and other brands.

Malik, in contrast, grew up in a working-class family, according to BBC News, and he experienced his share of cruelty and racism from ignorant schoolmates, according to Celebrity Net Worth. But he got the last laugh. Thanks to the success of One Direction and now his solo career, he has a net worth of $75 million. Still, he hasn't forgotten where he comes from — he's active in multiple charities, including the British Asian Trust.
