Andra Day has adhered to the adage of "go big or go home" with a statement-making, risqué Oscars outfit that turned heads up and down the red carpet. The gorgeous star of the Hulu film "The United States vs. Billie Holiday" wore a slinky, statement-making Vera Wang Haute Couture gown as she revels in her first Academy Award nomination in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (via InStyle). Andra wore her cascade of gorgeous curls in an loose updo, showing off long gold, bejeweled statement earrings that grazed her shoulders.

Andra Day recently won her first Golden Globe for best actress

Andra was honored with her first Golden Globe Award for her portrayal of the legendary jazz singer, Billie Holiday on February 28 of this year. She is only the second woman to win in that category. The first was Whoopi Goldberg for the film "The Color Purple" in 1986. "I was really shocked," she said (via The Guardian). "It was so overwhelming."

"That means that, for 35 years, black women were made to feel inadequate in this space. It really does remind me that representation is huge, which is what makes me go, OK, I want to stay in this business and be another voice," she said of the win and her career as an actress.

The singer and actress was encouraged to audition for the role of Billie Holiday by Lee Daniels, the film's director. Andra initially declined and said, "I tried to get out of it on multiple occasions. I love Billie Holiday so, so much, and the idea of being a stain on her legacy kept coming into my mind (via The Guardian).
