Oprah Spills Details On Prince Harry's New TV Series

Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey are teaming up yet again. The duo first appeared together in March of 2021 when Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, sat down for a tell-all interview where they dropped bombshells about the royals and dished the dirt about living within the confines of the family (via USA Today). During the interview, the couple revealed to Oprah that Meghan suffered from suicidal thoughts during her time within the family. The Duchess of Sussex commented on the revelations herself, sharing that she needed help, but she was told that she couldn't check into a hospital because it wouldn't look good for the family. Meghan and Harry also claimed that members of the royal family made racially insensitive comments about their son Archie's skin color. The interview was said to have caused a huge rift between Harry and his family, and naturally, created a firestorm in the media, per CNN.

Following the interview, Oprah revealed that she was shocked as to how open Meghan and Harry were during their conversation. "I had no idea it would have the reverberating impact that it has had and continues to have," Oprah told Nancy O'Dell (via NBC). "I did a lot of preparation for that. It was really important to me that what we put out there in the world was put out into the world at the time that everybody could see it and that things didn't leak and that things weren't misconstrued before the actual interview happened." Now Oprah and Harry are working together again.

Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey are teaming up for series about mental health

In May of 2021, Oprah Winfrey appeared on "The Drew Barrymore Show" with psychiatrist Dr. Bruce D. Perry to share some big news. The former talk show host revealed that the mental health series she and Prince Harry have had in the works since 2019 was officially a go. Oprah confirmed that the series would begin airing on AppleTV in May of 2021 (via theĀ Daily Mail). "I want to just say that Dr. Perry and I have been also, for the past two years, along with Prince Harry and Apple, we've been working on this mental health series that's coming out," Winfrey said. Harry has been named a co-creator and producer on the series, which will spotlight mental illness and wellness.

Fox News reported that the show was supposed to be released in 2020, but was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Back in 2019, Oprah told her friend Gayle King about how the idea for the show was born. "I asked [Harry] the question, 'What do you think are the most important issues facing the world right now?' and he said, 'There are two.' He said climate change and mental wellness, mental fitness, and mental health." Harry has also spoken out on the project, revealing that the series will share "facts and science" surrounding mental health issues. "If the viewers can relate to the pain and perhaps the experience, then it could save lives," Harry previously stated.
