What Does It Really Mean When Your Pubic Area Itches?

Any part of your body can itch, from your arms to your legs and even your pubic area. It may not be comfortable (it likely isn't), but it also doesn't always mean you have an infection or anything bad. The reason for your itch can vary widely just like the variety of places on your body on which you can experience itches. So what causes itching in your pubic area?

According to Health Grades, itching in the pubic area can be caused from something as mild as allergies all the way to something as serious as cancer. Other possible causes include irritation, inflammation, and infection. Healthline adds that certain skin conditions and sexually transmitted diseases can cause itching as well.

What this means is that you shouldn't panic if you experience itches in your pubic area because there are so many things that could be causing it. It could be something easily fixable, so you shouldn't jump to any negative conclusions. For example, some people experience allergic itching from latex, and others can experience itching from irritation from various soaps, perfumes, lubricants, and creams, all because of their different chemical makeups. If this is the case, you should stop using the product in question and instead try a new product with different ingredients.

Here are even more causes of itching in your pubic area

There may be other causes for pubic itching, too. According to Healthline, your own urine can cause your genital area to itch if you have diabetes or urinary incontinence. Eczema and psoriasis are two skin diseases that can also cause this itching. If you've been diagnosed with one of these two diseases, this may be your culprit. Other potential causes are yeast infections and menopause. In rarer cases, stress can lead to itching, including in the pubic area. This is because stress can manifest physically if its levels rise high enough.

None of this is meant to scare you, though. On the contrary, take solace in knowing that so many of these culprits are incredibly fixable and temporary. In fact, pubic itching rarely means you need immediate medical attention, per Health Grades. You should, however, try your best to figure out the root cause of the itchiness and ultimately seek medical care if the itching in your pubic area lasts more than a few days.
