The Smart Technology Trend You'll Want To Try In Your Home This Year

It wasn't all that many years ago that smart technology would have sounded like something out of a science fiction film, but it's fast becoming part of our daily lives. Smart TVs and smartphones are commonplace, and increasing numbers of people are using smart devices like Amazon's Echo range of smart speakers, or their Google Nest competitors. "SMART" stands for "Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology", so smart technology is technology that goes beyond the usual functions, offering a new experience for users (via GBI Events).

However, that's just the beginning of what we can do with smart tech. You might have a smart watch, for example, or be familiar with how smart technology can improve your kitchen experience — from smart refrigerators to smart ovens, the possibilities are almost endless. That said, there's one particular smart technology trend that you're sure to want to try in 2021, and it's no exaggeration to say that it can truly transform your home.

Smart lighting could transform your home

If you're looking to make a change at home this year, decorative smart lighting might be the way to go.

As interior designer Breegan Jane told Good Housekeeping: "As we head into the new year, people will look for ways to make their home a comfortable and functional living space. For instance, swapping out regular incandescent bulbs for smart lighting options allow you to set schedules and create an ambiance to fit your needs — whether that's Zoom school, cooking prep for a family gathering, or just relaxing in the living room."

Smart lighting has never been easier to put in place, either. Per The Independent, in most cases there's no need even to install anything; it can be as simple as screwing in the new bulb and either downloading the required app or connecting it to your pre-existing smart home system. Then, you can potentially save both money and energy, while tailoring your home's lighting to your needs.
