Emma Corrin's Unusual Emmy Look Had Fans Scratching Their Heads

Netflix's "The Crown" cleaned up at the 73rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 19, 2021, winning for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth), Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Josh O'Connor as Prince Charles), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Tobia Menzies as Prince Philip), and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher), via Emmys.com

One performer who was nominated for their lead role but did not win — Emma Corrin, who played Princess Diana — still captured the attention of Emmy audiences with their very unusual outfit and accessories.

Corrin arrived at the Emmys almost all in pastel, donning a pale yellow Miu Miu tube dress that looked a little bit like a straight yet loose sack. To contrast all that yellow pastel, Corrin showed off black claw-like fingernails bursting out of fingerless yellow opera gloves. While that look could certainly turn heads on its own, it was what they wore on their head that got the most attention — and questions (via Page Six).

Twitter wondered what was on top of Emma Corrin's head

When the camera flashed to Emma Corrin, reacting happily to their castmates' wins, it was easy to notice a bonnet on their head that some said resembled a swim cap, with one Twitter user saying point blank: "I can't believe Emma Corrin wore that swim cap all night." Another Twitter user was also not a fan of Corrin's Emmy style, writing, "I must say, some of those Hollywood types have different fashion tastes. Most notable to me was Emma Corrin's swimming cap, shapeless frock and black, dagger-like nails. It was kind of like shy pilgrim meets mad scissorhands."

Still, not everyone panned Corrin's ensemble — and some people rather liked it. "I literally cannot explain why i love this look i just do," a fan tweeted of the entire ensemble.

According to Page Six, others wondered if Corrin's ensemble was inspired by former One Direction member Harry Styles, who is on a solo tour as of this writing and will star in an upcoming movie with Corrin, "The Policeman." The two apparently share a stylist, Harry Lambert, who created Corrin's Emmy look.
