Here's What Billie Eilish Really Thought After Meeting The Royal Family
The 25th installment in the long-running "James Bond" franchise, "No Time to Die," was one of the first casualties of the COVID-19 pandemic. The film's release was delayed over and over again before, finally, opening in United States' theaters in October 2021, over 18 months after it was initially supposed to debut (via Radio Times). The glitterati were out in force for the film's big night, with the world premiere taking place at the iconic Royal Albert Hall in London. As Entertainment Weekly reported, stars Daniel Craig, Ana de Armas, Lashana Lynch, and Naomie Harris were resplendent in their finery. However, all eyes were on the royals who, as Glamour reported, were spotted chatting to none other than Billie Eilish.
"No Time to Die" might have been delayed for what felt like forever, but Eilish's titular song, which she co-wrote with brother and collaborator Finneas O'Connell, had been out during much of that time and was a massive hit worldwide. It's actually traditional for the royals to attend "Bond" premieres, since the suave spy is a bonafide British icon. But the photos of Eilish excitedly chatting to Kate Middleton threatened to steal the show out from under him. The Duchess of Cambridge stunned in a gold gown, and Eilish looked suitably chuffed to be meeting her. Now, the pop star is revealing all about the headline-grabbing moment.
Billie Eilish revealed that the royals were kind and very 'normal'
During an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Billie Eilish opened up about what it was like meeting Prince William and Kate Middleton in the flesh at the glitzy "No Time to Die" premiere. Eilish acknowledged she'd been given a bunch of strict rules to follow before meeting the royals, but the couple was ultimately too friendly to allow her to follow protocol. As Eilish explained, "I tried to. I was planning on it ... [But] they were just so normal. They didn't make me feel like, 'Oh, I'm scared. I can't talk to them.'" The "Bad Guy" hit-maker described meeting the Cambridges as an "amazing" experience, noting, "They were, like, very complimentary, and they had all these questions for me." Overall, Eilish shrugged, "They were just very friendly and funny and sweet. I can't complain."
As Page Six noted, aside from meeting William and Kate, Eilish was also spotted chatting amiably with William's father, Prince Charles. The men donned chic black tuxedos for the star-studded event, while Eilish matched her brother in all-black. The royals are quickly cultivating a reputation for being more normal than they appear on the surface, with "No Time to Die" villain Rami Malek telling Entertainment Tonight, "For me, I just try to treat them like I would anybody else." He added, similarly to Eilish, "I remember we were at the BAFTAS, and I met them and they have a lot of questions to ask you."
