The Heartbreaking Death Of General Hospital Star Bergen Williams

Former "General Hospital" cast member Laura Lynn "Bergen" Williams, who portrayed Big Alice Gunderson for 13 years, has died of Wilson's disease at the age of 62, according to a post on Twitter attributed to her sister. She died on July 20, but the family released the news to the public on November 16.

The family's post read, "Bergen Williams succumbed to the ravages of Wilson's Disease surrounded by loving family." The Daily Mail reported that the actor inherited Wilson's disease, a condition that causes copper accumulations in organs, including the brain.

During her 25-year acting career, Williams also appeared on television shows like "Nip/Tuck," "7th Heaven," "V.I.P.," "NYPD Blue," "Sons Of Tucson," "Babylon 5," and "Scrubs." Per She Knows Soaps, "General Hospital" fans will likely remember Williams for her portrayal of the Quartermaines' live-in maid, Big Alice, from 2002 to 2015. Big Alice moonlighted as a wrestler and played integral roles in several Quartermaine family storylines.

General Hospital stars remember Bergen Williams

Bergen Williams' former "General Hospital" co-stars spoke out in the wake of learning about her death from Wilson's disease. Ned Quartermaine actor Wally Kurth tweeted his sorrow at learning about her death. "Sending heartfelt condolences to Bergen's family. She was a bright light in the Q house for many years. RIP," read the actor's tweet

Another "General Hospital" actor, Nancy Lee Grahn, who portrays Alexis Davis, took to Twitter to express her grief. She tweeted a video of Williams as Big Alice on the show with the caption, "Best kiss evah! RIP dear Bergen." The scene Grahn shared featured her character, Alexis, dressed in drag as the butler after Kristina was born. In the classic scene, Williams as Big Alice offered the butler a bit of a trade. If Alice could get a little kiss, the butler could see the baby, despite direct orders not to let anybody see the baby. So when Alexis, as the butler, leaned in for a small kiss on the cheek, Alice grabbed her and kissed her on the lips, transferring the butler's fake mustache to her face, and the jig was up.

"General Hospital" fans also shared their condolences on learning of the former soap star's death. "Such sad news, Oh how I loved Alice," one fan tweeted. "Rest well Bergen Williams. Thank you for sharing your talent and helping make watching the Q's on GH so entertaining," another fan wrote.
