Meghan Markle's Father Claims The Duchess Lied About Her Childhood

Meghan Markle ruffled feathers when she shared an open letter that she wrote to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer back in October (via Yahoo). In the letter, Meghan lobbied for paid family leave for all. "At an alarming rate, millions of women dropped out of the workforce, staying home with their kids as schools and daycares were closed, and looking after loved ones full-time. The working mom or parent is facing the conflict of being present or being paid. The sacrifice of either comes at a great cost," the Duchess of Sussex stated.

In addition, Meghan spoke on her own personal experiences with money in her childhood. "I grew up on the $4.99 salad bar at Sizzler — it may have cost less back then (to be honest, I can't remember) — but what I do remember was the feeling: I knew how hard my parents worked to afford this because even at five bucks, eating out was something special, and I felt lucky," she wrote. "And as a Girl Scout, when my troop would go to dinner for a big celebration, it was back to that same salad bar or The Old Spaghetti Factory — because that's what those families could afford to do too," she added (via Newsweek).

However, Meghan's claims from her childhood aren't entirely true, at least according to her estranged father Thomas Markle Sr.

Thomas Markle slams Meghan and Harry in latest interview

Weeks after Meghan Markle's impassioned plea for paid family leave, her father Thomas Markle is speaking out. Thomas tells The Sun that his daughter wasn't truthful in her letter to Congress and that she never had to worry about financial issues when she was a child.

"She's never, ever, ever had to worry about anything like that in her life," Thomas told the outlet of Meghan's comments. "We'd do the best restaurants in town and we'd do Sizzler because it was convenient," he explained. "We never had to rub our pennies together and just have the salad bar. She had the salad bar — but she had a meal as well." Thomas went on to share his opinion of his daughter using her royal title while dipping her toes into American politics. "She sends letters to senators and congressmen where she calls herself the Duchess. That's totally wrong. You really shouldn't do that," he said.

Thomas also had something to say about Meghan's husband, Prince Harry. "Harry walked away from his responsibilities and that's ridiculous. He walked away from his grandmother, the royals and the British people," Thomas said, adding that he believes Harry wouldn't back down from a confrontation if the two ever met face-to-face. "He's a candyass. I'd take him on at my age any time. He'd run away from me."

Sadly, this isn't the first time that Thomas has publicly called out Meghan in the media, and it's not likely to be the last.
