Kristin Davis Auditioned For This Hit Sitcom Before Landing Her Role In SATC

Despite her lengthy, and very varied, career in the entertainment industry — which took in stints on "General Hospital" and "Melrose Place" among others, per IMDb — for a whole generation of fans, Kristin Davis will always be synonymous with "Sex and the City." Davis played adorably neurotic Park Avenue princess Charlotte across six seasons and two spinoff movies. She's since reprised her role in the well-received TV reboot "And Just Like That," which follows the characters into middle age.

Evidently, "SATC" means a whole lot to the actor. In fact, during an appearance on podcast "Origins with James Andrew Miller," Davis even credited the show with saving her life. According to ET Canada, without acting, she admitted, "I don't think I would be alive." The actor is a recovering alcoholic and shared that she started drinking very young but thankfully, "Because my love for acting was so big when I was very young, I had something that was more important to me than just drinking."

However, if things had gone slightly differently for Davis, she might have been headlining a very different, but equally beloved, show instead.

Kristin Davis almost played another beloved Type A character

Similar to how it's impossible to imagine anyone but Kristin Davis playing Charlotte, it's crazy to even consider somebody other than Courteney Cox as Monica in "Friends." But, as the "SATC" star admitted during an appearance on "The Late Late Show with James Corden," via YouTube, she almost played Monica in the beloved sitcom. Acknowledging she was among around "8,000 young ladies who read for Monica," Davis revealed she happened to be "in the same yoga class" as Cox at the time and the two even used to be friends. They hung out regularly alongside a whole bunch of other women who were desperately trying to make it in Hollywood while working various odd jobs. While the group was out shopping together one day, Cox mentioned she'd landed a TV pilot that she felt was going to be a big hit.

Naturally, it was, because the show was "Friends," which ran for ten successful seasons and enjoyed an emotional reunion earlier this year. Long-time fans will note, however, Davis did end up playing a role in the hit show, as Erin, a love interest of Joey's (per IMDb). Although everything clearly worked out for the best, Davis admitted to finding certain aspects of her "SATC" journey difficult, opening up to the Sunday Times (via Cosmopolitan), about being hounded by the paparazzi throughout her years on the show. The attention amped up again during "And Just Like That," leaving Davis feeling frustrated.
