The Pivotal Chapter Jason Momoa Closed Right Before Announcing His Split

On January 13th, 2022, Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet announced on Instagram that they are "parting ways in marriage." The social media statement read, "We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times ... A revolution is unfolding – and our family is of no exception ... feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurringAnd so – We share our Family news – That we are parting ways in marriage."

The Instagram caption continued, "We share this not because we think it's newsworthy – But so that – as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty. The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other – to be who we are learning to become."

The "Aquaman" actor and the former "Cosby Show" actress first met back in 2005, and eventually married in 2017 after years of dating. The pair also share two children together, Lola and Nakoa-Wolf, per People

Although many were shocked to learn of the couple's decision to part ways, almost as surprising as the split itself is the timing of their sad announcement.

There were clues Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet were not in a good place

Jason Momoa posted the heartfelt Instagram statement just a couple of hours after filming officially wrapped on his new movie "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom." In a photo shared by the film's director on Instagram, James Wan, Momoa is posing on the beach set in Malibu along with Wan and his co-star Patrick WIlson — and looks surprisingly upbeat for a man in the midst of a marriage breakdown.

"And finally, finally, finally picture wrap on the actual last day of #Aquaman2 in Malibu with these two gents," Wan wrote in a caption. "I have a very long way to go before it will be ready, but I can't wait to share this little film with you all," the director added.

Fans of Momoa and Lisa Bonet were likely stunned by the news of their split, and many might now be wondering what went wrong in the pair's relationship. However, according to People, there were clues that suggested trouble was brewing between the couple long before their bombshell announcement — mainly the fact that Momoa and Bonet haven't been photographed publicly as a duo in nearly two years.
