The Touching Way Bindi Irwin Honored Her Dad In Her Wedding Ceremony

Adulthood has brought a medley of joyful occasions to the Irwin children, and they've taken care to honor their father throughout each special moment. In particular, the family's eldest child Bindi Irwin paid tribute to her father on her wedding day in a way that would have made Steve Irwin a proud papa indeed. Per Brides, Bindi met her future husband Chandler Powell at the Australian Zoo in 2013. Bindi and Powell — who later gushed to People that Bindi was "amazing" — began dating in 2015 and Powell proposed in 2019. Still, their wedding was a much simpler affair than they anticipated, due to COVID-19.

In 2021, Bindi spoke to Page Six about how the pandemic had been extremely difficult for her family. "It has probably been the hardest time in our lives other than when dad passed away," the animal advocate explained. "For us it's been difficult [because] Australia Zoo has over a thousand animals. We literally can't ever close." However, Bindi and Powell were able to shelve these ongoing difficulties and prevent the pandemic from putting a damper on their special day when they wed in 2020. In fact, they made sure to include Bindi's late Dad in the festivities.

Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell honor Steve Irwin in their married life

Despite what were likely extensive wedding plans, Teen Vogue reported that Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell married in a small ceremony, due to COVID-19 concerns. Following the wedding, Bindi shared a photo to Instagram that showed herself and husband Powell exchanging a kiss. "We've planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn't have didn't have guests at our wedding," she wrote in the caption. "This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe." In the same post, Bindi revealed that, "Mum helped me get ready, Robert walked me down the aisle, Chandler became my husband, and together we lit a candle in Dad's memory."

These days, Bindi and Powell are raising a child of their own: a little girl named Grace Warrior Irwin Powell. Since her birth in 2021, the proud parents have taken care to keep her engrossed in the world of wildlife, per People. In late 2021, Bindi shared a photo to Instagram that showed the family on an outing at the Australia Zoo where she and Powell first met. "I'm thankful that our beautiful Grace Warrior is growing up surrounded by wildlife and wild places," Bindi wrote. "Her favorite part of the day is when we go on our family walks through the @australiazoo gardens. Her smile is sunshine!" Suffice it to say, Steve's memory is alive and well.
