The Young And The Restless: Nick Newman And Phyllis Summers' Relationship Timeline

On "The Young and the Restless," Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) are two individuals who came together out of tragedy and ended up being unable to resist each other on and off for years.

They raised a daughter together, played a whole lot of video games, and had one of the more interesting weddings in the show's history. But, ultimately, they could never seem to keep it together.

After all, when Nick and Phyllis first embarked on a relationship, it was due to them both cheating on their significant others, with each turning to the other when something is going wrong in their relationships.

Nick had seen two Phyllises in his time, with Michelle Stafford originating the role in 1994, Gina Tognoni taking it over from 2014 to 2019, and Stafford returning soon after the soap let Tognoni go.

While their last breakup at the end of 2021 might have been the final one, Nick and Phyllis took a long time to get to the place where they are today. Let's take a look at their entire relationship timeline.

Nick loses his daughter but gains Phyllis

Nick Newman had been married to Sharon Collins (Sharon Case) for years when tragedy struck and took the life of their teenage daughter, Cassie Newman (Camryn Grimes). She had gotten behind the wheel of a car without a license to drive a drunk Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei) home and crashed the car. Daniel escaped unharmed, but Cassie died.

Nick and Sharon grew apart during their mourning period, and Nick grew closer to Daniel's mother, Phyllis Summers. While she was involved with Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) at the time, Phyllis and Nick shared one night together, and she became pregnant.

A paternity test proved inconclusive, but Nick told everyone he was the father anyway. Sharon was devastated and divorced Nick, so he married Phyllis at a roadside country bar, and they had a grand old time. Phyllis later gave birth to a daughter they named Summer, but their happiness was short-lived.

Nick is presumed dead but shows up alive with amnesia

In as soapy a storyline as you could get, Nick was presumed dead in a plane crash. Then, he showed up alive but had forgotten the past few years and believed that he and Sharon were still married and that Cassie was still alive.

When Nick's memory returned, he reunited with Phyllis. But, by then, feelings between him and Sharon had returned, and, when Phyllis spied Nick and Sharon sharing a kiss, she ended her marriage.

After that, Nick waffled back and forth between Sharon and Phyllis for a bit, impregnating them both. Phyllis ended up losing her baby, but Sharon gave birth to a little girl named Faith. By then, Sharon and Nick had agreed to co-parent and not marry, but Phyllis had some legal troubles that kept her from being with Nick, even though he was once again no longer with Sharon.

However, things got dicey when Sharon wanted Nick back. So, when Nick and Jack decided to take another paternity test to see who really fathered a now-teenage Summer (Hunter King), Sharon fiddled with the results to make it appear that Jack was the father.

But, when Phyllis learned what she did, she confronted Sharon on a staircase and fell backward, hitting her head. She then fell into a coma and was moved to a long-term care facility.

Nick tries to marry Sharon again, but Phyllis returns

With Phyllis out of sight, Sharon and Nick reconciled and made it all the way down the aisle — when Phyllis burst right into the wedding (now played by Gina Tognoni). She had woken up and decided to finish what she had started.

Nick broke things off with Sharon when he learned what she did with the DNA tests, but Phyllis was done with both of them and returned to Jack. However, that ended when she started an affair with his brother, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson).

As for Nick, he once again reunited with Sharon after two other failed relationships, but, after an argument one night, he slept with Phyllis. The two tried to keep it a secret, but Sharon found out the morning she was going to remarry Nick and made it all the way down the aisle (again) before dumping him there

Billy and Phyllis were guests at the wedding, and, when Billy heard what happened, he broke things off with Phyllis. So, what were Nick and Phyllis to do except move in with each other?

Nick and Phyllis try again — twice

Nick and Phyllis were happily living in Nick's new house, playing video games together while a horrified Summer looked on. Then, the truth came out about Phyllis; Sharon; Nick's mom, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott); and Nick's sister, Victoria (Amelia Heinle).

They all thought that Nikki had killed a crazed and abusive JT Hellstrom (Thad Luckinbill) and hid the body. When Nick learned that Phyllis and Sharon had been keeping this secret, he was furious and broke things off with Phyllis. (JT eventually turned up alive.)

This caused Phyllis to end up in Vegas, where she magically turned into Michelle Stafford again. When she returned to Genoa City, she eventually picked things back up with Nick but came to a realization as 2021 ended. Sex and video games do not a relationship make.

Nick and Phyllis are now single and once again drawn toward old flames Sharon and Jack — keeping fans tuned in to see what happens next.
