Hugh Jackman's Wife Opens Up About The Rumors Surrounding His Sexuality

While Hugh Jackman has worked with some of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, off-screen he only has eyes for his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness. The couple met on the set of the Australian television series, "Corelli," in 1995. Jackman told Today that he knew within two weeks he'd be spending his life with Furness. Luckily, she felt the same way, and they tied the knot one year later.

Jackman and Furness went on to adopt their two children, son Oscar and daughter Ava. For more than 20 years, the pair have been an example of a happy marriage, and "The Greatest Showman" star has said that their secret is simple. "You have got to find the right person. It's powerful, but simple," Jackman explained

The down-to-earth star added that feeling secure enough to show his true self has also been key. "Until you feel that comfortable with your partner, you don't really know if you're right together," he said. "So literally from day one, Deb and I had that feeling. It was like a relief. I could just be myself. I am not saying we don't ever dress up or impress each other, but being comfortable is a key."

But while the couple are the picture of wedded bliss, Jackman has dealt with speculation about his sexuality for years. And now Furness is speaking out about it.

Deborra-Lee Furness is laughing off rumors about her husband

Although Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have been married for nearly 30 years, there are still some who believe rumors that the "X-Men" star is gay. For Furness, the speculation is laughable. "Hugh's been gay for whatever, I mean, hello guys — if he was gay, he could be gay!" she joked during an appearance on the "Not an Overnight Success" podcast. "He didn't have to hide in the closet anymore, and he'd be dating Brad Pitt, or whatever. Not that Brad's gay, but you know what I'm saying!"

As for Jackman, he thinks the questions about his sexuality started when he played openly gay singer-songwriter Peter Allen on Broadway in "The Boy from Oz." But the rumors don't seem to bother him. "Some dudes do get upset, some dudes say, 'Don't say I'm gay,' [but] I am good," Jackman said in a radio interview, per Daily Mail.

In the meantime, Jackman and Furness celebrated 26 years of marriage in April 2022. The actor used the day as an opportunity to gush over his wife on Instagram. "Every single day is filled with so much laughter, joy and backgammon!!!!" he wrote. "Deb you light up my life. I love you with all my heart!
