Is Riverdale Really Ending?

The CW scored a big hit with the teen drama "Riverdale." The show is based on the Archie Comics characters Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead. The comic version of the characters originated in 1941 (via Heatworld), but in 2017 the CW opted to turn the comic into a dark and twisted drama about a group of young friends living in the town of Riverdale. Since that time, the series had garnered tons of fans and plenty of praise from viewers (via Teen Vogue).

The "Riverdale" cast includes KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, and Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones. The cast also includes Madelaine Petsch, Casey Cott, Vanessa Morgan, Ashleigh Murray, and Charles Melton. In addition to the young cast of the show, the character's parents are also played by some very well-known actors. "Scream" star Skeet Ulrich portrays FJ Jones, Mark Consuelos is Hiram Lodge, and Molly Ringwald plays Mary Andrews, per IMDb. The late Luke Perry also portrayed Fred Andrews before his untimely death in 2019 (via People Magazine).

Each season of "Riverdale" has revolved around mystery and mayhem, and fans have been sucked into the drama along the way. However, the fate of the show has officially been decided as the series prepares for its seventh season.

Riverdale will officially end after Season 7

According to TVLine, "Riverdale" will end its run after the upcoming Season 7. The CW announced the end of the fan-favorite series this week, revealing that the show will give fans a proper goodbye with its farewell season. "We had a long conversation with [executive producer] Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] yesterday, who is thrilled by this news, and we will treat the show in the manner it deserves.... We want to make sure it goes out the right way," CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz stated. "I think they, too, felt that seven years is the right amount," he added. "As a fan myself, I do want to do what is right for the show."

The news that "Riverdale" will be coming to a conclusion isn't exactly shocking to many fans. Actress Lili Reinhart recently revealed that the cast was hoping the series would be picked up for the seventh season and that it would likely end after that, per People Magazine. The final season of "Riverdale" will be on the 2022-2023 CW schedule along with "The Flash," "All American," "Walker," and "Nancy Drew." New shows including the "Supernatural" prequel, "The Winchesters," and "Walker Independence" will also premiere during that time.

"Riverdale" will be sorely missed by viewers who have been tuning in week after week for years. However, all good things must come to an end. Thankfully, the series will get the proper send-off by The CW.
