Jennifer Lopez's 'Cascading' Wedding Dress Is Straight Out Of A Dream
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were one of Hollywood's golden couples during the early noughties. Having first gotten engaged in 2004 (via USA Today), the couple soon called it off, citing the pressures of being in the public eye. Despite moving on to other relationships, the pair stunned the entertainment world when Lopez posted a photo kissing Affleck in July 2021 (via Instagram). Since then, it's been a whirlwind of romance, including an engagement and a Las Vegas wedding.
The couple got a marriage license in July 2022 after visiting the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, where they shared an intimate ceremony (via Elle). "We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient," she wrote in her newsletter, On The JLo.
Affleck and Lopez decided to share their love a second time with those closest to them, holding a ceremony at their home in the Hamptons on Aug. 20, 2022, per Vogue.
Jennifer Lopez's wedding dress was inspired by vintage Ralph Lauren
Jennifer Lopez wore three dresses for the big day, which drew "inspiration from archival Ralph Lauren pieces," as the designer noted on Instagram. But, of course, her "cascading" wedding dress (via Vogue) was the standout moment. The skirt consisted of 1,000 handkerchiefs attached by hand, made from 500 meters of fabric. The ruffles were also draped from the neck to the shoulders, creating a spin on the "classic turtleneck column" design of the dress, complete with a long, sheer veil.
As Ralph Lauren noted on Instagram, the ruffled handkerchiefs were made to be "a nostalgic keepsake and a modern heirloom" for the bride and her family. Aside from the train and the neck, the ruffles were also added to the sleeves to transform the dress into "a statement in craftsmanship and dignified design," the designer wrote. Ben Affleck wore a couture white tux jacket, black trousers, and a black bow tie by the designer.

Like her wedding dress, Jennifer Lopez wore two more equally stunning gowns during the cocktail reception. The first continued with the "cascading" theme (via Vogue), this time with strings of pearls. These pearls were hand-embroidered onto the dress, in addition to "micro-pleats of silk tulle, pearl embellishments, and Swarvoski crystal," as the magazine notes. The last outfit of the evening was a sleek white dress with more Swarovski crystals in addition to a "removable organza overlay." Organza is a silk fabric often used when making evening and wedding dresses (via Sewport).
Running with the couture Ralph Lauren theme, the couple's five children were also dressed in white, according to Vogue (via Instagram). As for how much Lopez's dresses cost, the Daily Mail estimates that they could be anywhere between $55,000 to $5 million. "These dressed start at around $500,000 each because they are hand sewn with the finest materials, and definitely more for the style with crystals and pearl work," a stylist told the newspaper.
