Miley Cyrus' Most Rebellious Red Carpet Moments Over The Years

If there's one thing we know about Miley Cyrus, it's that she sure knows how to entertain (and shock) a crowd. From her teenaged-sweetheart "Hannah Montana" Disney days to twerking on stage with Robin Thicke at the 2013 Video Music Awards, Cyrus has gone through several stunning transformations and phases in the last decade alone that make her the relatable pop icon that she is.

When the spotlight is on her, the "Wrecking Ball" singer sure knows how to deliver — and her red carpet moments throughout the years indeed prove that to be true. Known in the last ten years for her risqué behavior and pushing the envelope, Cyrus told Entertainment Tonight that everybody makes choices, "sometimes they're right and sometimes they're wrong, just like in life — mine are just magnified."

To show off the billboard-charting megastar's bold and fearless attitude, we collected some of Cyrus' most rebellious red carpet moments over the years that are definitely worth a second round of applause.

2012 MTV Video Music Awards

The world saw a significant shift in southern belle Miley Cyrus' style and attitude in 2013, as she showed up at the MTV Video Music Awards that year sporting a chopped blonde space-bun hairstyle and posed with her tongue out for nearly every photo. In a YouTube video of the "Bangerz" singer on the red carpet, Cyrus can be seen waving her peace-signed hands in the air, sticking her tongue out at the screaming crowd, and dancing wildly with her arms flailing about.

2013 American Music Awards

It's no surprise that Cyrus has a bit of a potty mouth, and she accidentally let one slip during an interview on the red carpet during the 2013 AMAs. When Lady Gaga arrived on the red carpet halfway through Cyrus' interview on a giant robotic horse, the "Can't Be Tamed" singer can be heard in this video posted by American Music Awards saying, "Well what a f*** — oh sorry!" She quickly cuts herself off before getting the entire "F" word out, and says, "What a big scene stealer! Next time I'm gonna come in on a dragon." (Which would have been totally iconic, by the way.)

2015 MTV Video Music Awards

With a strappy and seductive duct tape-esque ensemble, Cyrus strutted her stuff on the red carpet during the 2015 VMAs in a very revealing harness-like top and rhinestone skirt. What was naughtier than her outfit, though, were the movements and faces she was making during the photo-opp session. Apart from her usual tongue-out smile, Cyrus can be seen in this video turning around and occasionally shaking her booty at the camera and making seductive faces at the photographers.

2018 Grammys

Even though you can't fully see her tongue in some of the photos taken from the 2018 Grammys, that doesn't mean Cyrus isn't sticking it out. In fact, she could be seen in a video from the red carpet using a white rose as a prop, biting the stem, smelling the rose, and licking its petals. Celebs at the 2018 Grammys decided to band together in solidarity for the #MeToo movement by wearing black and sporting a white rose, which is why Cyrus came holding one (per Allure).

Avengers: Endgame premier

During the (purple) carpet at the "Avengers: Endgame" premier, Cyrus reportedly pushed her then-hubby Liam Hemsworth's hands away from her during the photo opps, then continued to have her photos taken solo. What happened before that brief explosive moment? According to MTV, Cyrus pretended to lick Hemsworth's shoulder when posing for the photos, prompting him to say (courtesy of lip-reading experts online), "Could you behave, for once?" Cyrus responded with a little shove and a grumpy face toward him.

2019 Met Gala

Leaning into the 2019 Met Gala theme, "Camp: Notes of Fashion," Cyrus strutted the red carpet in an a-symmetrical green and black sequenced mini dress — but her outfit wasn't the only daring thing about her that night. Poking fun at her ensemble, during an interview with Vogue correspondent Liza Koshy, Cyrus pointed out a loose part of the dress and says, "Shawn Mendes is only 20 [years old], so I kept tequila in here just for him." She then quickly turned to the camera and said, "Just kidding — I don't give alcohol to minors."

BCRF's An Unforgettable Evening Benefit Gala

Cryus gives yet another sneak-peak into her relationship with Hemsworth during the BCRF's An Unforgettable Evening Benefit Gala (an even to support breast cancer research). In the YouTube video posted by WMTV, Cyrus can be seen on the red carpet mischievously punching, squeezing, sticking her tongue out, giving silly faces, and talking to her ex-hubby (and the photographers) while getting their photos taken. She definitely dances to the beat of her own drum and doesn't care who's around to witness it.

2019 Grammys

At the 2019 Grammys, among many other best-dressed celebs, Cyrus looked stunning in a black pant suit, but she didn't let her glamour get in the way of letting her personality shine through. A YouTube video posted by the Recording Academy shows Cyrus on the red carpet, noticeably flirting with the camera by winking, sticking her tongue out, and running her hands down her body in a seductively playful way. She even yells light-hearted remarks at the photographers throughout as they teasingly banter back and forth.

Isn't It Romantic movie premier

One thing many people love about Cyrus, is that she's unapologetically herself, all the time — even in the middle of a red carpet interview. During this moment caught on video by Access, Cyrus is in the middle of talking when she abruptly stops — because she heard some catchy music in the background. "Oh sorry, I love this song," she said, as she starts bouncing up and down and says, "Ayyy! Ok sorry," and then continues on with her interview. Of course, her interviewer giggled and was very amused.

2020 MTV Video Music Awards

The "Malibu" singer arrived on the red carpet prior to her 2020 VMAs performance in a sheer black dress with reflective embellishments and black under garments. Her matching black-jeweled gloves (that went well past the elbows) added a gorgeous touch. What also added a gorgeous touch was not only her new mullet, but her classic, edgy poses she pulled during the photo session, complete with (of course) a view of the inside of her mouth and tongue. What's a Miley Cyrus photo without that?
