What Akono Dixon Loved Most About Working On The New Hallmark Flick Spring Breakthrough

Akono Dixon is a Hallmark newcomer. Though he started out in modeling and then pursued a Ph.D. in college, he knew that he wanted to be an actor. Dixon previously honed his acting skills on the CW series "All American" and in the 2019 award-winning film "Dolomite is My Name" with Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock. He even appeared in an episode of HBO's popular drama series "Euphoria."

"Spring Breakthrough" is Dixon's first lead role. The film is a part of Hallmark's Mahogany brand of movies inspired by Hallmark's Mahogany greeting card line. In true spring break fashion, "Spring Breakthrough" takes place in Gulf Shores, Alabama as single mother Monica (played by Keesha Sharp) attempts to put a stop to her daughter's engagement to Dixon's character Shawn. However, Monica might find her own love story from an interesting source along the way. Dixon recently opened up about his experience filming "Spring Breakthrough."

Akono Dixon loved filming Spring Breakthrough

The Knocturnal spoke with Akono Dixon about his time filming "Spring Breakthrough" and his enthusiasm for his role in the film was obvious. "Shawn is literally the positive best friend that everyone dreams of having. When you meet him, it's easy to think 'okay, this guy is perfect,' but he's vulnerable, yet strong, and soft at the same that it's impossible to not fall in love with him. Shawn is not afraid to be human," Dixon explained about his "Spring Breakthrough" character.

As far as what Dixon loved most about the making of the film, it seems like it was everything. When The Knockturnal asked about his favorite moments, he replied, "Honestly, there are so many throughout the movie for me that I can't choose just one. Once you watch the movie, you will know exactly what I mean." However, Dixon did gush about his "lovely" castmates Keesha Sharp, Demetrius Grosse, and Rhyon Nicole Brown as particular highlights. All three offered support and knowledge about the film industry for Dixon as a relative newcomer.

Spring Breakthrough has an all-star cast

Akono Dixon has formidable castmates in "Spring Breakthrough." Keesha Sharp was in the film "Marshall" with the late Chadwick Boseman. Demetrius Grosse appeared in "Straight Outta Compton" and the series "Fear the Walking Dead." Aside from acting in films and television shows like "Empire," Rhyon Nicole Brown has dabbled in music, even releasing an EP in 2019.

"Spring Breakthrough" will premiere on Hallmark Media's Hallmark Movies and Mysteries channel on April 30. From what Dixon describes, it seems to be right in line with the heartwarming, feel-good films for which Hallmark is known. "If you're looking to feel inspired, to see that love comes in many shapes, sizes, and forms, then watch 'Spring Breakthrough!'" Dixon told The Knockturnal. With this film under his belt, Dixon hopes to continue working with Hallmark. Given that he loves to portray "positive minded" and "upbeat characters," Hallmark sounds like a great fit for Dixon.
