How Jennifer Lopez's Mom Feels About Her Reunion With Ben Affleck
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's relationship history is complicated, to say the least. The couple first met in 2001 on the set of their movie "Gigli." Soon after the pair began dating and became one of the hottest Hollywood couples of their time. The duo, who were nicknamed "Bennifer" took their relationship to the next level in 2002 when they announced that they were engaged. However, fans were shocked when the couple postponed their 2003 wedding, saying excessive media attention surrounding their nuptials. Just four months later, the couple called it quits for good. However, one person never held out hope that the couple would get back together. Lopez's mother, Guadalupe Rodriguez always believed that the pair were meant for one another and that they would cross paths again. It turns out that she was right.
Following their failed engagement in 2004, Lopez and Affleck both moved on with other people. Just a few months after announcing her split from Affleck, Lopez married singer Marc Anthony and the pair later welcomed twins Max and Emme together before calling it quits in 2011. The following year, Affleck married his then-girlfriend, actress Jennifer Garner. During their marriage, they welcomed three children, daughters Violet and Seraphina and son Samuel before ending their marriage in 2018.
While Lopez's mother may have thought that Bennifer would be back together after their divorces, she would still have to wait a while before her dreams of the couple's reconciliation came true.
JLo's mom prayed for a Bennifer reunion
In 2021, fans were completely stunned when Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck reunited. The pair were spotted out together several times in April and May of that year before it was officially confirmed that they had rekindled their romance after nearly two decades apart. "They really care for each other and they picked up right where they left off," a source told E! News at the time. While fans may have been shocked by the reunited couple, Lopez's mother, Guadalupe Rodrigez, says that she always knew they'd get back together. "I knew that you would always get back together," Rodriguez told her daughter during a joint appearance on "Today." "Because I prayed for 20 years," she continued.
JLo's mother got her wish in 2022 (almost two decades after the couple originally split), when the duo finally tied the knot in a Las Vegas ceremony. After the wedding, "The View" co-host Sunny Hostin, revealed that Lopez's mother had opened up to her about her feelings towards her new son-in-law. "I was not surprised because Ben is her true love so I knew they would get back together. I knew that they were in love," the TV host said (via Hola). "I've spoken to her mother, Lupe, about it. Lupe has always said that Ben is her true love," Hostin added.
Her mom even had a cameo in Ben Affleck's gambling commercial
It's clear that Ben Affleck shares a special connection to Jennifer Lopez's mother, Guadalupe Rodriguez. The actor even allowed his mother-in-law to make a cameo in the WynnBET sports gambling app commercial in 2021, which Affleck directed. In the commercial, Affleck is seen walking by Rodriguez as she's playing a slot machine. "Come on, Lupe! You can do this, girl, just like the slots in St. Louis!" she says to herself. For her part, Rodriguez is said to be an avid gambler, which is a hobby that she and Affleck seem to have in common.
While Ben Affleck obviously got the stamp of approval from Jennifer Lopez's mother, he also earned approval from her children, Max and Emme. During the interview, JLo admitted that Affleck is a wonderful stepfather to her kids. "They love Ben," she told Today. "He's a wonderful, wonderful father and father figure to them as well 'cause he has his own three beautiful children and then there's us," Lopez continued. "He's fantastic. He really steps up to the challenge of what [being a stepfather] is and what that means and they love him. They appreciate him and so do I," she added.
It seems that the entire family has embraced Affleck, as he and Lopez look to make the most of their second shot at love.
