Jennifer Lawrence Is Relieved She Didn't 'Freak Out' And Cancel Her Wedding

Actress Jennifer Lawrence's husband is art director Cooke Maroney. They were introduced to each other in 2018 and got engaged in 2019. Before any official announcement of the news, fans spotted Lawrence wearing an engagement ring in February 2019.

At the premiere of "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" in June 2019, Lawrence was asked about her fiancé and their engagement, "Well, he's just the best person I've ever met in my whole life. It was a very, very easy decision," as per Entertainment Tonight. Lawrence also credits Maroney for making it easier for her to go out without a security detail, due to the fact that she was initially embarrassed to bring security on dates with him, which she told Vanity Fair in 2021.

The couple got married in October 2019. Despite the wedding planning going fairly smoothly — except for a snafu with the bachelorette party — Lawrence experienced a bout of cold feet, but thankfully she went through with the wedding.

Lawrence related to one of her characters' struggles with commitment

Jennifer Lawrence started filming the movie "Causeway" in the summer of 2019, prior to her wedding to Cooke Maroney. The movie is about an army vet named Lynsey, which is played by Lawrence, dealing with PTSD after getting injured in Afghanistan. She returns home to New Orleans and finds a confidant in James, played by Brian Tyree Henry.

One thing Lynsey struggles in the film with is commitment. Lawrence was not even aware of it at first, but she was going through something similar. This connection did not fully sink in until filming was done in 2021, as it had been delayed due to COVID-19.

"[Lynsey's] untenable home," Lawrence told Vogue, "her inability to commit to one thing or another because of these internal injuries ... I think I connected with that at that specific time in my life. So much was going on with me at that time that I didn't realize. Until I was back, pregnant, married, making it. And I was just like, 'Oh, this is a woman who is scared to commit.'"

Lawrence and Maroney now have one child together

Fortunately for her, those fears of commitment did not stop Jennifer Lawrence from settling down with Cooke Maroney and starting their life together. Around the release of her movie "Causeway," Lawrence told The New York Times, "... when I'm home with my husband making this family, I'm so happy I stayed. I'm so happy I didn't freak out and cancel the wedding and run away ..." In that same interview, she joked, "...I'll never be taken down!"

The two-person family of Lawrence and Maroney expanded by one new member since their October 2019 wedding. It was announced in People in September 2021 that Lawrence was pregnant with their first child. And months later, Lawrence and Maroney welcomed their first child in February 2022, who they named Cy, after Maroney's favorite painter, Cy Twombly. Nonetheless, Lawrence is adamant about keeping most of her baby's details under wraps.
