The 2019 American Music Awards took place on Nov. 24, 2019, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Calif. — and all of music's biggest stars were there to celebrate and use the red carpet as their personal catwalk. This year's American Music Awards ceremony was perhaps the most highly-anticipated awards show of 2019, due in no small part to Taylor Swift's ongoing beef with Scooter Braun, who's been accused of doing some pretty shady things. Their feud over masters ownership threatened to compromise Swift's buzzed-about AMAs performance, which featured a medley of some of the singer's greatest career hits. Fortunately, however, Swift was ultimately able to play a number of fan-favorite songs before accepting the coveted Artist of the Decade award.
In addition to Swift's headline-making medley, the 2019 AMAs featured a number of memorable performances. Lizzo brought the house down with her powerful ballad "Jerome," and Christina Aguilera delivered a heartfelt performance of "Fall On Me," an emotional duet with A Great Big World. Of course, the only thing more memorable than your favorite artists' stellar performances were the outfits they rocked on and off of the stage. Lizzo brightened up the red carpet at the 2019 American Music Awards
Despite receiving a whopping total of eight Grammy nominations in the week leading up to the 2019 American Music Awards, Lizzo didn't win any of the three AMA trophies for which she was a nominee. Still, the breakout star managed to steal the show with her heartfelt performance of "Jerome," which brought the house — and Lizzo herself — to her knees.
Ahead of her performance, the "Juice" songstress walked the red carpet in a bright orange, custom Valentino one-shouldered mini dress with ruffle detailing. However, as vibrant as her outfit was, the real star of Lizzo's red carpet ensemble was the itty-bitty, white Valentino purse she carried with her. According to People, Lizzo declared, "There's only three in the world!" She continued, joking, "I got tampons in here, a flask of tequila..."

Camila Cabello took full advantage of her appearance at the 2019 American Music Awards to remind viewers that she's a bona fide superstar for a reason — you know, in case you had forgotten. The songstress delivered not one, but two stellar performances — a sultry rendition of "Señorita" (alongside rumored beau Shawn Mendes) and a vibrant, colorful performance of her new hit song "Living Proof." Cabello also accepted the AMA for Collaboration of the Year with Mendes, which — considering the number of times their song has been stuck in our heads — didn't exactly come as a surprise.
Ahead of taking to the AMAs stage, Cabello stunned on the red carpet in a strapless, blush pink Oscar de la Renta evening gown (via Entertainment Tonight), which featured intricate floral detailing and a long, tulle train. Adding to her ethereal, fairy tale-inspired vibes, Cabello wore her long, dark tresses in a loose, messy braid, and sported a barely-there, dewy makeup look.
Carrie Underwood's 2019 American Music Awards look was fit for a queen
Purple is the color of royalty — and, honestly, we can't think of a person more fitting for the regal hue than country superstar Carrie Underwood. The "Cry Pretty" songstress, who's debuted some stunning looks over the years, arrived to the 2019 American Music Awards wearing a shimmery, slinky gown that seemed to drip with sparkling purple sequins. Underwood's regal evening gown featured a plunging V-neck, a dramatic, one-shouldered cape, and a thigh-high leg slit that would likely make even Angelina Jolie blush. To pull her royal look together, Underwood accessorized with a gold choker necklace, statement rings, and strappy gold heels.
Like a true queen, the former American Idol winner won both awards for which she was nominated — Favorite Female Country Artist and Favorite Country Album. "Tonight was a dream," the star posted on Instagram, following the awards ceremony. She continued, "Thank you, fans, for voting... and for the love and support that you CONSTANTLY give!"

Aguilera told Billboard, "When you get absorbed in the business, which I've been in this for a long time, I think you stray away from who you really are." She continued, "So this song tonight, 'Fall on Me,' is such a beautiful song."
Kelsea Ballerini gave us Christmas candy vibes with her 2019 American Music Awards look

The first African American woman to become a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre, Copeland joined Artist of the Decade Taylor Swift on the AMAs stage for the singer's romantic piano rendition of "Lover," the titular song from Swift's secrets-filled seventh studio album. Along with Craig Hall, Copeland delivered an elegant ballet performance to the ballad, leaving viewers totally mesmerized. "Is it wrong of me to say that the highlight of the whole Taylor Swift decade thing was The Misty Copeland," one fan tweeted. While the 2019 American Music Awards ceremony was jam-packed with all of your favorite stars, there's no question that the evening belonged to Taylor Swift.
Along with being crowned Artist of the Decade, the "You Need to Calm Down" songstress also won every AMA for which she was nominated — Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album, Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, Favorite Music Video, and Artist of the Year. Added to the AMAs won in previous years, Swift's five wins at the 2019 awards ceremony brought her total AMAs tally to 28 — officially surpassing Michael Jackson's, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Ahead of taking to the AMAs stage to deliver a knockout medley of some of her biggest hits, Swift walked the red carpet (and danced in the crowd) wearing a slinky, sparkly, dark green dress. The singer's glittery gown was unmistakably the color of money, which — considering the money and masters-fueled feud between Swift and Scooter Braun — was likely no coincidence.
