Kate Middleton Reveals Prince Louis' Surprising First Words

That Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, is completely captivated by her three children is no secret. And it has made fans like us really thrilled that Kate is always ready and happy to tell a story or two about how Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte are doing, and what they are up to.

While Prince William and Kate were filming their BBC holiday special, A Berry Royal Christmas, Kate tells British baking queen Mary Berry (via Daily Mail), "One of Louis' first words was 'Mary', because right at his height are all my cooking books in the kitchen bookshelf. And children are really fascinated by faces, and your faces are all over your cooking books and he would say 'That's Mary Berry' ... so he would definitely recognize you if he saw you today."

Prince George and Princess Charlotte's first words were said during royal tours

The revelation of Prince Louis' first word comes as a bit of a departure from that of his older siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte, because his older siblings' first words were revealed during two of the family's overseas tours.

The anecdote was probably told in jest, but it thrilled audiences in Australia all the same when Prince William told greeters during the start of the Cambridges' 2014 Australian tour (via Telegraph), "I suspect George's first word might be 'bilby' — only because 'koala' is harder to say." When George the baby eventually got to meet George the bilby while at Sydney's Taronga Zoo, the infant didn't say "bilby," but there were plenty of baby squeals and gurgles to show the crowds how much fun he was having (via Telegraph).

We heard Princess Charlotte squeal and say "oh-la-la!" at her mother's garden at the Chelsea Garden Flower show in 2018 (via Hello!), but she won fans over long before that, when the Cambridges visited Canada in 2016, and the toddler princess excitedly said "Pop!" as she swatted a balloon arch set up for a children's party (via Vanity Fair). We don't know if "pop" is the first thing Princess Charlotte has ever said, but it's the first thing we've heard her actually say and that's good enough for us.

As for the other pint-sized royal in the family, baby Archie may be well on his way to saying "dada" as his first word, but only time will tell.
