What You Need To Know About The Coachella 2020 Postponement

When April rolls around, there's only one thing anyone is ever talking about, and that's Coachella, of course. But this year, that's all about to change, as Goldenvoice, the parent company of the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, announced the postponement of the world-famous music event to later in the year. Fans who were lucky enough to get their hands on tickets will now have to wait to bust out their favorite festival wear and body glitter until October.

In a statement on Twitter on Tuesday, festival organizers officially confirmed that Coachella Music and Arts Festival, along with Stagecoach, would be postponed due to concerns regarding the coronavirus outbreak. "At the direction of the County of Riverside and local health authorities, we must sadly confirm the rescheduling of Coachella and Stagecoach due to COVID-19 concerns," the statement read. "While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff and community very seriously. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials."

Coachella 2020 has been moved from April to October

The first weekend of Coachella 2020 will now take place on October 9, 10, and 11, while the second weekend has been moved to October 16, 17, and 18. Lana Del Rey, Travis Scott, and Frank Ocean were among those set to headline this year's Coachella, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, it's not yet clear if the full lineup will be available to play the two new weekends. Tickets will be updated automatically and resent to festival-goers, and those who can't attend will be offered a full refund. However, Buzzfeed notes that additional costs like accommodation and travel may not be so easy to change or cancel.

The postponement of the festival comes after California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a statewide emergency over coronavirus threat. Across the world, various other large public events and festivals set over the next couple of months have also been canceled or postponed.
