The latest adaptation of John Steinbeck's epic family tale "East of Eden" hit Netflix recently, and it's sure to get fans buzzing about the cast. For starters, the cast list is stacked with top performers who may look familiar like Florence Pugh, and Christopher Abbott. A supporting character who also captivated from start to finish, though, was Faye, played by Martha Plimpton. While Plimpton's look was pretty toned-down on-screen, her style is anything but in real life.

On red carpets, the star isn't opposed to sequins and bold prints. As for her hair, she's blonde in real life and rocks a much shorter cut than her "East of Eden" character, often wearing a chic slick-back on carpets. Makeup-wise, she isn't afraid to play, either. Unlike Faye, she loves a classic red lip and isn't afraid to stand out. Plimpton praised "East of Eden's" makeup department for transforming her into someone else completely. "We had extraordinary New Zealand makeup artists who were wonderful," she told Parade. "Who fitted me for some special effects lenses that I could wear to make my eyes look more dilated, more lifeless, more bloodshot ... the prosthetics were brilliant. Those craftspeople are extraordinary. No AI, no computer, no CGI can replace real craftsmanship."

Martha Plimpton has undergone a complete style transformation over the years

While Martha Plimpton certainly shined in "East of Eden," it was far from her first project. Plimpton was a once-popular '80s actress who starred in "The Goonies" at age 14. Throughout her career, she's also undergone a complete style transformation that's wildly different from her character Faye. While Faye wore feminine period gowns, Plimpton has always had a much edgier sense of style. In the 1980s, when her acting career really began to take off, Plimpton wore quintessential '80s styles like a studded skirt and jacket combo along with shoulder pads. Later in the '90s, her signature style evolved into wearing tailored coats and business casual looks, even on red carpets.

Fast forward to her more recent years as an actor in the 2020s, and you can tell that Plimpton loves a more glamorous outfit. As you can see in the above photo on the right, Plimpton wore a colorful floral look in 2022 that was decidedly bolder than her previous looks. Although she hasn't said much publicly about her personal style over the years, she did tell Believer Magazine exactly what makes her feel good. "A structured bodice," she said. "I need bones. I need a structured look."
