How Maya Rudolph Really Feels About Kamala Harris

Many Hollywood celebrities have weighed in on Kamala Harris being named as Joe Biden's running mate, but the best reaction is arguably Maya Rudolph's. Rudolph notably portrayed Harris on Saturday Night Live, and was even nominated for an Emmy for her performance.

What does Rudolph think of the former presidential candidate being Biden's VP pick? Rudolph learned that Biden had chosen Harris while on a Zoom call with EW and other celebs who had been nominated for an Emmy. "Oh s***," she exclaimed upon first hearing the news. Rudolph added, "I'm as surprised as you are, guys. That's spicy."

While we might have to wait a bit to see Rudolph as Harris again as traveling is difficult right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Rudolph said she's definitely down to reprise the role on SNL. "I love going to the show," she said. "Any excuse I can get, I love."

Maya Rudolph has a lot of respect for Kamala Harris

In an interview with IndieWire, Rudolph expressed her deep admiration for the California senator and her joy that Harris was selected as Biden's running mate. "It feels hopeful, as a human living in the United States," she said. "It's terribly exciting to feel like someone so incredibly worthy of the nomination has it, and someone who I admire and respect. It makes me feel energized to follow the campaign. As a person who for so many years played different people, it's such a joy to get to be part of the race."

That respect seems to go both ways. At the very least, Harris appears to be flattered at Rudolph's impression of her. Harris tweeted a GIF of Rudolph portraying her on SNL last September with the caption "That girl being played by @MayaRudolph on @nbcsnl? That girl was me."

Rudolph retweeted Harris' tweet, writing, "YES SHE WAS SENATOR HARRIS!!!"
