Why Millennials Should Consider Working At Publix

Who knew Publix was such a great place to work? The popular supermarket chain consistently makes it on Fortune's list of 100 Best Companies to Work For and prides itself on keeping their employees happy.

"My friends and family ask me how I can be so happy every day I go to work," said one associate (via the Publix blog). "I tell them working at Publix is one of the most positive experiences of my life. The environment there is open and friendly and all of my co-workers are good people. I am so busy at work that before I know it, my day is over. I have lots of friends who are not happy at work and are always complaining about something. I try not to brag too much because they might get jealous, but I can't help but tell them how happy I am at work."

Any job is going to have its ups and downs, but a lot of outspoken Publix employees seem like they really are happy with where they work. The company is certified by Great Place to Work, with 88 percent of employees saying that Publix is a great place to work based on a survey. Most employees report feeling welcome in the company.

Publix employs a lot of millennials

Publix is an especially good workplace for millennials. Many millennials — defined by Pew Research Center as those born between 1981 and 1996 — work at the chain. According to a press release (via Business Wire), Publix has been named as one of Fortune's Best Workplaces for Millennials five years in a row, coming in at 69 in 2020. Approximately 40 percent of its workforce is made up of millennials.

Why is Publix such a good place to work for millennials? It could be because many of them are likely juggling several commitments, such as school, along with work. One employee said that Publix is very understanding about their employees' needs. "Publix is very accommodating to their associates," they said (via Fortune). "Whether it's a school schedule, family vacations, hardships, etc. Publix and its management team will always do whatever they can to help if it is needed. Publix truly does care for their associates."
