This Is Who Has The Most CMT Awards Ever

Luke Bryan. Luke Combs. Dolly Parton. These are just some of the biggest names in country music one might expect to have won the most CMT awards ever. But if you guessed the top honoree was one of these musicians, you'd be wrong. Because the person with the most CMT awards in the history of the show is none other than the incomparable Carrie Underwood (via Gold Derby).

Unbelievably, Underwood has taken home 20 CMT trophies — that giant collection includes seven recognitions for Video of the Year, a highly coveted award in the country music genre. Among the winning videos are songs that still reign supreme as some of the best on the radio, including "Cry Pretty" and, our personal favorite, "Before He Cheats." The "Cry Pretty" singer is nominated for two awards at the 2020 CMTs, according to E! Online. One of those nominations includes Video of the Year yet again, this time for "Drinking Alone" (via Fox News).

Will Carrie Underwood increase her CMT awards total?

Underwood's win is not assured in the Video of the Year category, as she is up against powerhouse performers like co-host Ashley McBryde, Luke Combs, Kelsea Ballerini, Keith Urban, Thomas Rhett, Old Dominion, Dan + Shay, and Miranda Lambert (via Us Weekly).

It's worth noting the former American Idol winner has also lost for Video of the Year seven times — although a few times she lost to herself, according to Gold Derby. One of those losses was against Urban for his can't-get-out-of-your-head (in a good way) tune, "Blue Ain't Your Color." So who will snag the award tonight? Fans actually vote for the winners, so it could be anyone's victory!

Underwood is also nominated in the Female Video of the Year category, but the competition is stiff considering her fellow nominees. Ashley McBryde, Gabby Barrett, Miranda Lambert, and Maren Morris are also considered frontrunners for the win.
