This Iconic Moment Won't Be Featured On The Crown
The Crown has covered a lot of pivotal moments in Queen Elizabeth II's life, but there's one iconic historical moment from her reign that won't be featured on the Netflix drama: the wedding of her heir, Prince Charles, and his first wife, Princess Diana.
The news comes as something of a surprise, as a teaser trailer for the show's fourth season depicting Princess Diana in a wedding dress made it seem that the wedding would, in fact, play out on screen.
Emma Corrin, the actress playing Princess Diana, even spoke to British Vogue about the stunning gown, which is a recreation of the original. "We were filming the scene when you first see her in the wedding dress – I think it was Lancaster House in London – and I had a team of about 10 people helping me put it on, because it's massive," she said. "I walked out and everyone went completely silent. More than anything else I wear in the series, it's so... It's her."
We'll see a lot of Princess Diana in season 4 of The Crown
While the wedding itself won't be portrayed in its entirety, according to Town & Country, it seems like we'll at least get a glimpse of that memorable day. We will also see quite a lot of Princess Diana and her journey from a teenager to one of the most beloved royals in history. "You meet her and she's... 16 years old," Corrin told Vanity Fair. "From episode one to three, we see her dynamic before she goes into the palace—and how normal she was, living in her flat with friends... then she's really transported overnight."
Corrin did a lot of research for the role, looking at Princess Diana's early family life to tap into the character. "She wants any warmth," she said. "The most useful research came from her childhood and her relationship with her parents, which was f***ed, to say the least.... If you have a very f***** relationship with your parents, you constantly look for maternal and paternal figures."
Season 4 of The Crown will hit Netflix on November 15.
