The Reason Trump Has 'I Declare Bankruptcy' Trending On Twitter
It's becoming increasingly difficult to keep track of where Donald Trump stands on the results of the 2020 election. At first, the Republican president wasn't even willing to accept that anything had happened, spending time on the golf course and not being seen much in public otherwise. Then, Trump decided the results weren't valid because of so-called voter fraud, which has yet to be proven in spite of a whole rash of lawsuits claiming as such on his behalf (none have been successful as of yet).
As BBC reports, over the weekend Trump seemed to make progress by acknowledging President-elect Joe Biden's victory, writing "He won because the Election was Rigged" on Twitter. However, just an hour later, he was refusing to concede once again. Election officials advise this is the "most secure in American history" with "no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes or was in any way compromised." As a result of Trump's ongoing refusal to accept reality, he's become a living meme.
Trump is drawing real-life comparisons to The Office's Michael Scott
BBC confirms Biden secured 306 votes in the electoral college, far more than the 270 necessary to win the presidency. Even if any of Trump's lawsuits do come to fruition, no recounts or legal challenges will overturn the eventual result. The president-elect's lead in the popular vote is also over five million at this stage. During a recent news conference, Trump claimed "who knows" when the question of which administration would be in power was raised. Even though some worry that Trump might simply refuse to leave the White House, Twitter is having a field day with his refusal to concede.
Most recently, the Republican president hilariously tweeted, "I WON THE ELECTION!" leading many to point to the similarities between him and The Office's Michael Scott, who memorably insisted, "I DECLARE BANKRUPTCY!" after being similarly backed into a corner. Scott was advised to tackle his financial issues by declaring bankruptcy, leading him to announce as such in the middle of the workplace (via YouTube). It's not a flattering comparison, to be clear. One user even pointed to the trending topics that seemed to highlight key plot points in Trump's life, culminating in "I'M TIRED OF THIS GRANDPA."
