Matthew McConaughey's Son Looks Exactly Like Him

Matthew McConaughey's son Levi is the spitting image of his famous dad. How do we know? Though Levi and his younger siblings keep a relatively low profile, his philanthropist mom, Camila Alves McConaughey, sometimes shares family photos on Instagram. One photo in particular sent fans into a frenzy in October 2020. In said photo, Levi McConaughey is seen rocking a head full of wavy curls and sharp glasses, a look similar to that of his movie star dad. Though Levi is well on becoming a future heartthrob thanks to his stellar gene pool, there's more to this celebrity kid than meets the eye.

Levi is already "a great storyteller," his supportive dad told Entertainment Tonight, and he apparently has a creative spirit. Regarding his kiddos, Matthew said, "I want [my kids] to do whatever it is they're fashioned to do." He added, "Whatever they have an innate ability to do, and are willing to put in the work to get better at it. Whatever that is, I want them to do that. If that becomes something in the industry that I'm in? Bravo."

Let's take a look at this star-in-the-making who is already making headlines of his own.

Matthew McConaughey's son looked like his dad even as a baby

This may not be surprising but Levi McConaughey came out of the womb looking like his famous movie star dad. Levi, the first of the Matthew McConaughey's kids, was born at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center in 2008, weighing 7 lbs., 4 oz., according to OK! magazine. Though he had his mom's darker hair color and skin tone, even Camila Alves McConaughey couldn't deny the fact that her son was a spitting image of Matthew. "I think he looks more like Matthew every day," Camila told OK! during an exclusive interview following Levi's birth. Matthew added, "I've pulled out some baby pictures of myself, and the resemblance is amazing."

All these years later, and Levi is looking more and more like his dad. Looks aside, Camila told Access that her oldest son and her hubby are similar in so many other ways. Though she didn't share specifics, she said, "In a lot of ways. We'll be sitting here for hours talking about it."

This inspired Matthew McConaughey to name his son Levi

Matthew McConaughey's son Levi almost had an entirely different name — Matthew, Jr. Before Levi was born in 2008, Matthew and Camila McConaughey were stuck between six different names, including Matthew, Jr. and Levi. So, why Levi? "Levi's another name for Matthew in the bible," Matthew shared on Good Morning America. "We had talked about possibly Matthew, Jr. if we had a boy. And my favorite book of the bible is Matthew 6:22."

Ultimately, time gave the couple the answer they were hoping for. When Matthew and Camila McConaughey learned their son was born on 6:22 p.m., they knew his name had to be Levi. It makes sense Matthew McConaughey would choose a biblical name for his first born, as he's never shied away from expressing his faith in God. "Faith is very strong in my life ... it's important to our family," he shared with CBS Austin News while promoting his memoir Greenlights

Matthew McConaughey's childhood dreams came true with the birth of Levi

When Levi McConaughey came into the world, he made his dad's dreams come true. Matthew McConaughey told Good Morning America that he knew he wanted to be a father from the time he was 8 years old. The idea spawned when little Matthew met some of his dad's friends. "I was meeting some of his new friends, looking up at them and shaking their hands, and saying, 'Nice to meet you, sir,'" Matthew McConaughey said. "In my 8-year-old mind, what I noticed at that time, was every man that I had said 'sir' to — the common denominator was they were all fathers, and I remember saying, 'That's when you've made it. That's when you've succeeded in life, when you become a father.'"
