What We Know About Mariah Carey's Star-Studded Christmas Special

The most wonderful time of the year is upon us yet again, and Mariah Carey is getting ready — but this time, she's bringing a few friends along with her for the merriment. Since her very first Christmas album in 1994, Merry Christmas, Mariah Carey has strongly asserted herself as the Christmas Queen we truly don't deserve. Her song All I Want for Christmas is critically acclaimed and has served as a Christmas music staple over the years, with The New Yorker calling it "one of the few worthy modern additions to the holiday canon." It also reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart last year (via The New Yorker).

Well, it would appear that Carey is attempting to put herself back on the Christmas music bandwagon with a holiday special coming out this season. For a while now, it has just been speculation, but it has finally been confirmed, via People — and what's even more exciting is that Carey will be bringing along a few familiar faces.

The celebs in Mariah Carey's Christmas special are just as excited as we are

"Let's get festive!!!" tweeted Carey, serving as a confirmation of the speculation we were all hoping would be true. Alongside the tweet was a photo of Carey casually lounging in a wreath, dressed to the nines in a sparkly red dress with the caption, "Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special", with an Apple TV logo at the top.

The Christmas tree won't be the only thing that's star-studded this season; according to People, we can expect Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Billy Eichner, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, Misty Copeland, and Mykal-Michelle Harris, as well as Carey's 9-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe.

But what can we expect from the special itself? The official summary is as follows: "Faced with a holiday cheer crisis, the North Pole knows there's only one person who can save the day: Santa's great friend, Mariah Carey. Combining musical performances, dynamic dancing and groundbreaking animation, the undisputed Queen of Christmas jumps into action to create a holiday spectacular to make the whole world merry" (via TV Line).

You can watch the special on Apple TV on December 4th, which serendipitously will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the release of Carey's famous "All I Want For Christmas Is You."
